St. Tammany Parish School Board: VOTE TODAY 3/8 to Renew Taxes

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Services

Today, March 8, 2008, you have the opportunity to vote for improving schools across our parish.  This is NOT a vote for new taxes, it is a School Board bond reauthorization for $167 million dollars.  The proposal will allocate funding for various improvements such as:  instructional technology, campus security, the building of 2 new schools, and extensive remodeling and renovations of 16 schools across St. Tammany Parish.

Please show your support for your school system by voting today to approve this reauthorization.  Remember:  THIS IS A RENEWAL OF EXISTING MILLAGE, NOT AN INCREASE IN TAX RATES.

Hi Tina:

This is an opportunity for us to lower our property taxes. We don't get that chance very often. It's true that this is just a renewal of the original bond but the fact of the matter is that since the bonds original issue the number of homes in the parish have increased and the value of those existing homes has also increased. This has netted the school board much more money than they originally budgeted. I'm still not convinced that they could not do the same things they are planning by better allocating the funds they already have.

Hello Kenny, nice hearing from you.  It was a pleasure meeting you at the SMC class on Tuesday.  What a fantastic class!

In response to your comment, it makes sense, however, one factor that influences the parish's housing market  is  the quality of the public schools, since that is what St. Tammany is known for, and why many people move here.  I'm not disagreeing about their ability ot better allocate already existing funds, I am saying that in addition to that, their improvements in the public schools are extremely important for the future of our housing market.    Tina :)
