This weekend in Mt. Dora, Florida, located in Lake County not too far away from where Friday's deadly tornadoes ravaged parts of Lake County, life goes on with a couple festivities.  Turn out to these events may be at an all time low because of Friday's events, but people are still expected to turn out.

In historic downtown Mt. Dora, art is the talk of the town.  The 32nd annual, nationally ranked Art Festival has yet again arrived.  This year with over 285 artists from all over the world are expected to converge into the narrow streets of old town Mt. Dora to show off their newest works of art.  People from all across the state of Florida are expected to show up in the thousands to enjoy this treasured event by the community.

While you are meandering through the tents, you may hear the other festivities going on just 2 miles away.  Over at Renninger's, known for their worldwide antique extravaganzas, 21st century Mt. Dora is being sent back into the past.  Cannons will be firing, muskets and small arms popping with black-powder, and horses stomping across the land.  When the smoke of the battle clears, hundreds will be laying on the battlefield dead or wounded.

That is right, the Battle of Townsend's Plantation will be re-enacted this weekend with over 800 participants in the rolling hills of Mount Dora. the 1860's battle will be played out 2 times this weekend, once a day.  Before each battle, guests can wonder through the camps experiencing the tastes, taking in the excitement, and bartering for a few Civil War antiques.  Saturday, after the battle, there will be a special Civil War dress ball.  Be sure to attend in full costume for your chance to dance with either an officer or a Southern Belle.

When the last of the storms clear out, I will do my best to post photos of these events, as I plan to attend both this weekend.
