DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME - GOOD FOR BUSINESS

By
Real Estate Agent

Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday and reverts back to Standard Time on November 2.  Remember to set your clocks one hour ahead on March 9.  Spring forward although it is not officially Spring yet.  It is a saving daylight time and its main purpose is to make better use of daylight.  Spring does not officially start till March 20.  Can you imagine changing 8000 clocks?  TOURNEAU does.  It is a 3 days task and of course they do it twice a year.  It's also a good time to change batteries of your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

It was Benjamin Franklin who conceived the idea in 1784 and it was not implemented till 1916.   Only two states in the U.S. are not observing it.  Hawaii because it is near the equator and it has almost equal daylight and night time.  The other state is Arizona since it is too hot there already and they do not really need more daylight time.  Daylight Saving Time gives us more opportunity to take customers out to see houses.  If there are longer light in the evening, we can do more things in the evenings.  For the economic standpoint, it also encourages people to be out shopping longer.  Hopefully DST changes the tide for real estate.

Spring?? We got 10 inches of snow yesterday.  While this may not be unusual in some parts of the country, it's almost shocking here in Louisville.

Its Spring here in New Jersey...at least for today, lots and lots of March rain...not good for showing houses.  But we're usually good for one big snow storm at the end of March, though, which is even worse for showing houses.  I love the extra hour for showing, more people seem open for appts on weeknights.  And, thanks for the reminder about changing the clocks...its almost that time.

We had snow flurries in the Atlanta area today.  Spring IS around the corner, though.

I had to look up TOURNEAU.  Never heard of them and was wondering why a company had to change 8000 clocks.  Personally, I have 7 clocks and 5 watches that I need to change.....   Make that 10 clocks...   I forgot about the cars.  :-)

Johnny - Showing houses at daylight is much better because customers usually ask to come back and see it again at daylight.  Double work for us.

Debe - Extra hours hopefully mean extra income for us.

Erik - Some areas are experiencing more snow than usual even in the snow country.  New Hampshire and Vermont in the Northeast are having tremendous amount of snow this year.

Cathy - It's really lovely today with the sun shining.  I'm in Long Island but as you said we'll probably get a snowstorm by the end of March.

Nancy - The weather this year is a bit crazy.  We in New York did not get as much snow as some areas in the South.  I can't wait for Spring.  TOURNEAU is a big, expensive clock & watch store in New York.  Check it out.

Ryan - You're welcome.  Yes, spring is almost here.  My tulips and daffodils are starting to come up.

Rosalinda, with all the posts about changing clocks, yours is the first to make me realize or rather remember that longer daylight is indeed good for business.
