Part 2 - Clients? What Clients?

By
Real Estate Agent with Florida Hometeam Realty

I'm outta here. Clients? What Clients?

Just Last week I called an agent to show a listing my buyer was very interested in. I was told that if my client liked it and wanted to make an offer we would have to wait a week because the agent was going on a cruise.

Hey. everyone deserves a vacation but last time I looked this we had over 750 listings in that area and 4 pending sales. Is there no other agent in the office that this agent could have worked with to service her client while she was sipping Coco Loco's on the high seas?

This really floored me! How can a "professional" just let their business come to a dead stop while they are on VACATION?? Surely some simple arrangement could have been made for 7 days.

This is an understatement but I believe we have an obligation to make sure our clients are taken care of when we are on vacation or out of town for any reason. Who was going to take showing calls while this agent was out? Some people really need to wake up and smell the coffee. 2005 is dead and gone!

Talk about putting your client 2nd!  I would sure think someone from the office could help out...Everyone needs a hand sometimes.

wow...That is amazing that they would not have someone covering for them during that time period. Very unprofessional.

I always wonder if the SELLER knows that they made that choice for them.  I wrote a blog on my other blog a couple of weeks ago that just floored me about agents leaving the business and holding listings:

Is your Agent IN the business anymore?

It's amazing.  I had the same thing happen this weekend;  listing agent told me she was going to be out of pocket from Thursday until Monday and we would simply not be able to have a response.  I can't even imagine not being reachable or having someone fill in for you while you are gone.  Yes, everyon deserves a break but you can not put your client and fellow agents on hold at the same time....

Great post. I hear these comments from other Agents that can't understand what the other Agent must be thinking. Nice to see you are part of the ActiveRain community as well.

I'm not an agent - I'm not even in real estate.  If I were the seller though, and I learned the Agent didn't have coverage while on vacation, my contract would be cancelled with that agent / agency.

My business is support sales agents of Executive Jet Aircraft.  We are available, at least, 16/7 (can't make it 24), and someone is always available to cover.  Pride in customer service comes first.  Of course a paycheck is needed too, but we do desire to meet, and preferably exceed, our customer's expectations.
