A great Compliment

There comes a time in everyone's career when you get this compliment. If you have been on the receiving end, you will know what I am talking about. If you have yet to experience it, keep plugging along and one day you will.

We all know some of the more well known competition in our areas. As a mortgage professional, there are names you see more often than others. After a while you begin to understand that the reason you see their name is because they are trusted and knowledgable. Afterall, who would recommend you if they did not trust you, your abilities or your knowledge.

So yesterday I am making some changes to my website, when I look to see how many people have signed up for my newsletter. This is the Opt In section of my website, so anyone that is listed here MEANT to sign up. They WANT to get info from me.

As I am looking through the new signups, I notice a name. This name is one I recognize. I have seen their name around Charlotte and from everything I can see and have read by and about them, they know their stuff. And yet, they subscribed to MY newsletter!

Now, I do not know the motive... wether that is to learn from me or maybe even steal my ideas. Either way, the fact that they considered me knowledgeable enough and respected my abilities was a great compliment!

So to all of you that are just starting, keep going. Inform your audience of things relevent to what you do, as only you could inform them. Do it long enough and with the ability to speak from within, and you will find a compliment coming from a place you never expected!

Very true Ed.  If we continue to do business the way it should be done, even our competitors will want to watch and learn from us.

Ed, I'm sure they opted in because you have great material and they wanted to learn from you. Congratulations.

Charlie: I just began the newsletter and still working on the implementation of it. But I was very surprised to see that individual had signed up.

Don: You are very right!

Diane: Good luck woth your newsletter.

Gary: Thank you. I appreciate the kind words.

To the coward that posted the nasty comment (since deleted), I do undertsand that we should know our competition. I was simply stating that to be considered as such IS a compliment as I am one of HUNDREDS of loan officers in the Charlotte area. And of those HUNDREDS, I am one of the ones this person respected enough to want to keep up with. No matter how you look at that, it is a compliment. I have paid that same compliment to others that I am watching and learning from as well. So if you have nothing of value to add, please do not comment.
