Oh Ottawa, Your Snowfalls Never Cease to Amaze Me!

As many of you probably know, Ottawa was hit with a huge snowstorm this weekend. Here are some photos. We even had to close down the bank that I work at early so that we could still drive.

Saturday morning, before the storm: things looked relatively normal (that giant pile of snow from the parking lot has been accumulating since November)

But yet only 24 hours later, when looking outside my door, I was faced with this:

Snow!!!!!!

I had to go do grocery shopping (I was the only one in the store!) and at one point instead of walking on the half-plowed road I had to step onto where the sidewalk would normally have been, and found myself well past knee-high in snow. Driving was virtually impossible, I saw an enormous number of stuck cars.

That storm almost brought Ottawa to breaking the record for snowfall that has been in place since 1971. We're now only 34 centimeters away from breaking those 441 centimeters of snow for the year. It's absolutely incredible the snow we've gotten this year!

WoW!  That is a lot of snow!  I wonder how the grocery personal were able to get to the store for shoppers (even if it was only you at that time)...how does business "go on" with that kind of snow?

wow... I hope you're keeping warm! I've lived in plenty of cold weather, and realize now, how much bigger of a house you need to keep all the extra gear! brrr!

Hannah,

Tell me about it. I think that we here in southern Ontario have broken the 70 year record for snowfall this year. Now we've had three days of clear skies and sunshine (counting today) however I heard more snow is on it's way tomorrow.

The one good thing about it is that the skiers and snowboarders are happy and the groundwater will be replenished in the spring thaw. Many wells around here were dry this past year.

I love your pictures!  WoW, that's a lot of snow.

Deborah: we closed the bank early on Saturday so that people could go home. I assume it took most people a long time to get to work or wherever they were going.

Mara: Yes, my thermostat is turned up nice and high, and my coat is definitely my best investment of the year!!

Jerry: I'm very jealous right now, very very jealous!

Karen: Oh absolutely... it looks like we're not getting a spring for at least another month this year... though 4 meters of melting snow once the sun comes out and it's 30 degrees isn't going to be much fun either!

Jo: At least there's a good thing coming for all of you, it's good that you'll have some more groundwater. I heard that there were a few places around there that were also hit by a lot of the snow, so I'm sure you know what I'm going through!!
