LAST CALL: Stowe's Race to the Top of Vermont is tomorrow- August 25th

By

LAST CALL: Stowe's 6th annual Race to the Top of Vermont takes place tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.  It will be an exiciting and fun event for all walker, hikers, cyclists and runners.   My dog, Sadie, and I hope to see you on the trail.  As it is a steady 13% grade on the climb with a few steep pitches thrown into the mix, we are hoping to jog 25% of it and walk the rest (at a brisk pace).

Sadie is already working on her beauty sleep and resting up for tomorrow's festivities! Or maybe she just wants her belly rubbed!

The 6th annual Race to the Top of Vermont will take place on Sunday, August 25th at 9 am. The event is open to runners, hikers and cyclists to climb Mt. Mansfield's 4.3 mile Toll Road Ski Trail with an approximate elevation gain of 2,500 feet.

When I first heard about this event, I was impressed that people run up this trail as it is very steep in parts. I would think - Wow, how do people do that? Now that I live next door to the trail, I walk it about three times a week with my dog, Sadie. It's all a matter of perspective.

The event is hosted by the Catamount Trail Association and proceeds will benefit the Catamount Trail and Vermont Land Trust.  The Catamount Trail is a wonderful trail that spans 300 miles up the length of Vermont. I would like to hike it all some day.

Approximately 800 participants will partake in this event. The fastest runners will ascend the mountain in about 35 minutes. Finishers who make it to the top will not only have a great sense of accomplishment, but will also be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views from the summit.

If your dog can do it, you can too!

This year's RTTTOVT event will be sanctioned by USA Track and Field as the Vermont Hill Climb Championship. Challenge yourself to climb the highest mountain in Vermont!  Sign up today!  Registration begins at just $35.  Additional fundraising is appreciated.

Start of the event at base of the Toll Road ski trail...

Up, Up, Up!!!

The trip back down is definitely easier!

There is a delicious barbeque afterwards with live music.  I attended the event last year and it was a blast - a lot of super nice people working together for a good cause.

Lisa, I think Sadie is working it for a belly rub. She is sure a cutie pie and worthy of a rubbin'. She will also be a great running and walking companion tomorrow. I'm glad you left her behind the night you went out to see the bear!

Lisa you have such nice photos! Doggie looks so happy and content. The valley looks so inviting and Stowe I hear is wonderful, one of the nicest places in Vermont. Years ago I went on vacation there.

BTW you have a great smile.

I would so do it if I was there as here in Florida, about the highest hill we have is an anthill.

Kathleen, Sadie is AWESOME! You could not order up a more perfect dog. I adopted her from the shelter four months ago and she is the best companion. Plays when I want to play, rests when I want to rest. She will chase a tennis ball forever if you keep throwing it for her and she loves to snuggle.

I normally never keep shoes anywhere other than the closet because I like things neat, but one time I took my shoes off and left them by the front door. When she wanted to go outside, she carried my shoe over to me and held it in her mouth while looking at me with this sweet look in her eyes and wagging her tail. She was asking me to go out. It was the cutest thing ever. Now I have to leave one shoe out because that is her signal to me when she wants to go outside. Her former owner must have taught her that. It really is the absolute cutest thing!

The best part is that she can keep up with my active lifestyle and is so well behaved so I can take her everywhere with me!

Noah, no matter how many times you compliment my smile in a photo, it always makes me smile! Thank you!  I have a lot to smile about :)  One of which are my great friends here on Active Rain.

LOL Kevin!

Hi Lisa -- good luck at tomorrow's race to the top - after your victory tomorrow both you and Sadie could probably use a belly rub(or fill-in-the-reward-of-your-choice).   Have fun.

Lisa, I am happy to know that your rescued Sadie from a shelter. It sounds like she is the perfect pet for you. Whatever the circumstances were that brought her to the shelter, she deserves to have a loving forever home. She has that with you.  She will be loved and cared for beyond measure.

Lisa, this event sounds wonderful and what a huge participation rate at 800 people. Your photos really give us all a sense of the task at hand. I am impressed with the steepness of grade too but it is a great accomplishment and to have music afterward is a treat. Sadie is funny!!
