LAST CALL: Stowe's 6th annual Race to the Top of Vermont takes place tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m. It will be an exiciting and fun event for all walker, hikers, cyclists and runners. My dog, Sadie, and I hope to see you on the trail. As it is a steady 13% grade on the climb with a few steep pitches thrown into the mix, we are hoping to jog 25% of it and walk the rest (at a brisk pace).
Sadie is already working on her beauty sleep and resting up for tomorrow's festivities! Or maybe she just wants her belly rubbed!
The 6th annual Race to the Top of Vermont will take place on Sunday, August 25th at 9 am. The event is open to runners, hikers and cyclists to climb Mt. Mansfield's 4.3 mile Toll Road Ski Trail with an approximate elevation gain of 2,500 feet.
When I first heard about this event, I was impressed that people run up this trail as it is very steep in parts. I would think - Wow, how do people do that? Now that I live next door to the trail, I walk it about three times a week with my dog, Sadie. It's all a matter of perspective.
The event is hosted by the Catamount Trail Association and proceeds will benefit the Catamount Trail and Vermont Land Trust. The Catamount Trail is a wonderful trail that spans 300 miles up the length of Vermont. I would like to hike it all some day.
Approximately 800 participants will partake in this event. The fastest runners will ascend the mountain in about 35 minutes. Finishers who make it to the top will not only have a great sense of accomplishment, but will also be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views from the summit.
If your dog can do it, you can too!
This year's RTTTOVT event will be sanctioned by USA Track and Field as the Vermont Hill Climb Championship. Challenge yourself to climb the highest mountain in Vermont! Sign up today! Registration begins at just $35. Additional fundraising is appreciated.

Up, Up, Up!!!
The trip back down is definitely easier!
There is a delicious barbeque afterwards with live music. I attended the event last year and it was a blast - a lot of super nice people working together for a good cause.
