Anyone Know Why This Happens - or How to Stop It?

Something really strange is going on with my email...

When I write to clients I always send a copy back to myself, so I can keep track of the conversation. (I know, it's in the sent file, but I can't trust myself to remember to move it.)

Lately, many of those messages have been coming back labeled "SPAM" - which makes me worry about whether the client got the message or not. Maybe I'm hanging out in junk folders rather than in-boxes.

This morning when it happened again, I happened to scroll down through the past replies - and found that the message DID look like spam!

In my signature I have 3 links - to 3 different websites. For some reason, instead of one link to each site there were 13 of each!

How did this happen? How can I get rid of it without doing away with those links entirely?

I'm using Thunderbird, by the way.

Can this be some problem with Mozilla? I already quit using Firefox because I can't get rid of some kind of adware that has attached to it.

Anyone know what to do?

Sounds like you have been hacked or have a virus.

I agree with hacked or a virus, but also if the links are on an automatic signature, maybe that signature is getting loaded multiple times. If it is on a signatue I would try removing it and re-creating it to see if the problem is still there.

A full moon perhaps, haven't heard this one but will hang around and see what others have to suggest.

Lenn - Which would mean that all my anti-virus stuff simply doesn't work.

Dena - the only things that get repeated are the links.

Joyce - A full moon, sun spots, or maybe ... Gremlins! (remember them?)

Marte, I'm no expert by any means but it does sound like the signature may be corrupt. In most email programs signature blocks are just script and it can become corrupt, I've had it happen to me, not the repeating but leaving my name out all together. Try deleting and building a new signature.

Nancy - I deleted all the URL links - now I'll check to see what happens.

Marte -- I think Nancy (#3) in on right track.  Good luck with resolving this.

Steven - It's strange. I looked at the HTML and it looks like it should - one link per website. For now I deleted all of them.

Lenn - Perhaps.

This is also strange - my email shows another comment from Lenn, earlier than the other one. But it isn't here.

Marte, have you tried deleting your signature and redoing it? Not sure about Thunderbird. I stopped Foxfire due to crashing issues but have no issues with google chrome.

Maria - I haven't tried that yet. For now I just deleted those links entirely. I stopped Foxfire because I was getting these double underlines that led to ads... and haven't figured out how to get rid of them. Haven't seen them on Chrome.
