Marketing Tip Monday: Facebook For Real

Are you using Facebook for real?? I see lots of real estate agents who use Facebook in much the same context that they use ActiveRain. Quite a few postings about new listings or market reports but not much else. There are stagers who only show before and after photos. Mortgage brokers who only talk about the current interest rates. The problem is that, although it is awesome that you share your area of expertise on Facebook, you don't give people much to go on that they can't find elsewhere.

Your Monday Marketing Tip is this: Facebook is a social networking site. If you're going to use Facebook, use it for real. That means, people on Facebook want to be social. In order to be social, you need to give people something to be social about. If you never talk about things you like or dislike, places you go, things you find amusing or not at all funny - how will people get to know you? And we all know, people do business with people they like, not just people who know a lot.

So, if you're going to use Facebook, I suggest you Facebook for REAL!

I agree.  I use Facebook a lot and you definitely have to work hard to provide information of value to people while also balancing information about your day to day, a funny joke, and don't make it all business!

I don't have a separate business page, in my OPINION, more likely to be top of mind by engaging as you suggest vs being all business.  Thanks for sharing!

I have found it necessary to disconnect from several local Realtors who annoy me by posting new listings and open houses on their personal Facebook pages. A business fan page is the proper avenue for business. Keep your personal page personal is my thinking.

I have a separate business page but I always share posts on both to gain more exposure. I do try and add social things more often than ads and if I do post a listing I try to make it an interesting post rather than just saying "check this place out".

Not learning, Michelle - just tweaking what you're doing. People want to get to know you. The only way they can do that is if you put a little bit of yourself into your social media marketing. Don't be afraid to let people see a bit of the real Michelle! You'll be glad you did!
