SIP WALLS (PUR) 210 % MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT THAN  2X6  ( R19 ) WALLS

While this statement is hard to believe, I think it's close to true after reading a lot the green info out there.

As an NAR Green and earning a GRES (also Green) I am amazed that Green is not the only way to go when building new and or remodeling.

Saving energy is just smart. Even if my return on investment  does not come for 6 years after building, the ROI COMES eventually and saves me money and comfort for the rest of the life of the home. Not to mention helping the planet and not supporting big oil.

The old argument that building green costs more, does not hold water anymore either. It does cost a BIT more sometimes, but getting hold of a contractor and or designer who understands green will save you not only money now and down the road but angst. It is said by many that the costs to build conventional vs green are almost the same now with proper planning.

Not to mention that a home built to Energy Star standards a couple of years ago is no what we build as CODE.

So things are changing and people are getting on board with green and sustainable building but it's happening a lot more slowly than I would have hoped. But I keep plugging away.

Education is key. We are fortunate to live in a town where we have an amazing Sustainable Energy Dept at the local iniversity, Appalachian State, and we can tap them when we need to. You might wish to check around your community to see who knows what about green or who teaches the topic.

So as Realtor's, let's educate ourselves in order to help educate our clients.
