A Kindness Shown to a Buyer

On a closing this week, I found that the seller had taken the time to make sure that all the keys were easily identified, as well as garage door openers. There were also post-it notes under each item, and additional notes, telling about how much propane was in the tank, when the trash service would end, etc.A Kindness Shown to a Buyer

The mail that had arrived for the buyer was neatly stacked and easy to find.

They even left a tube of filler for a few little holes that nails had made in the walls.

The house had been cleaned and emptied, as promised. The garage was broom clean, too.

Every seller is supposed to leave a house broom clean, but not every seller goes the extra mile to make sure the new buyer feels at home.

This act of consideration from the seller was very much appreciated, and it didn't cost anything extra. Just some thinking ahead, and some caring.

A white board in the kitchen had a message from the seller:

"Goodbye house :(

Welcome home, new buyer!"

I've seen sellers leave bouquets of flowers or champagne for their buyers. This wasn't fancy, it was just heartwarming.

Amanda & Jared, I completely agree - that's why I had to share!

Chris and Dick - oh boy - I hope that works out. Mailbox keys are expensive.

Yvette, perhaps this will inspire others!

Jeffrey, thanks!

Nina, it's not terribly difficult to do something nice. ;)

It is great to see a seller being so kind and considerate of the buyer. I am sure that the buyer was very appreciative.

I love it when the sellers care...like when they have the house extra clean, or fix something that they did not need to...

It just makes everyone feel good!

Betty, it put a smile on his face.

Eve, it restores our faith in humanity, doesn't it?

Dawn,

Isn't it lovely to have a nice experience for your buyers or to represent those kinds of sellers? We do, it's just not as often as we would like.

It says a lot about the people and is impressive!

All the best, Michelle

Very touching post Dawn. Some sellers know how to put out the Welcome Mat for buyers!

What a lovely thing they did, stepping out from behind their own needs and giving thought to the new people who would live in and enjoy their once loved home.  Heartwarming!

So rare, but some welcoming! We were talking about this in a sales meeting yesterday--it seems like the joy of buying and selling has been lost. Little gestures like this show that it is still there.

It is rare that a seller actually do something like that. Usually they do the bare minimum.

These notes really help.  The listing agent or seller rarely prepare them for the buyer.

It's always great to have make things easier for the next person. The selling of a home is not just a transaction that happens on paper.

Dawn, the little things are always the most important. They don't cost extra but they make all the difference. Thanks for sharing! It rarely happens but it's always great when it does.

Aren't those always the best?  I find that elderly folks generally show this sort of kindness more often.  My first time home buyers almost cried when the lady they purchased their home from did the same thing :-)

Great Post and it's always good to show kindness, Nice story - thanks for sharing.  I remember a seller had a cleaning company come in the day before closing, so during their walk through, they had a chance to see just how clean they left the home and they had a Welcome Home Sign in the living room, so at closing, everyone was just so excited and the buyers were so ready to move in.

Dawn, I actually teared up reading this. So silly. I thought about leaving my house several years ago and how emotional it was. I love that the seller did this. I especially like the idea of leaving a parting gift from the seller. I may do this as a listing agent. BTW, our homes are no longer required to be broom swept. It has been removed from our contracts.

Michelle, it does say a lot!

Wanda, yes, wasn't that nice?

Geri, I agree! It is not always easy to do.

Holly, little gestures that mean sooooo much! So glad to have met you in person!!!

Edward, We see that "bare minimum" approach way too often.

Edward & Celia, yes, this is a gem!

Gerald, so very true! This is the human side.

Phil, super great!

Matt & Molly, yes, I think that is true overall!

Graziella, a Welcome Home sign! What a great idea!!

John, I agree!

Raymond, ;)

Tammie, broom clean is common courtesy, but we don't have it in our contract anymore, either.
