OHIO'S LAKE ERIE ISLANDS 2013 LABOR DAY WEEKEND-BATTLE OF LAKE ERIE
For those of us who live in the Northern OH, we have the opportunity to visit the Lake Erie Islands for a day if we so choose, rather than an extended vacation (although extended vacations are possible with bed & breakfasts, etc.). And, for the day, we feel like we are far away. We have access to the islands through our water transport of choice: i.e. Miller Ferry (for people, bikes and cars), the Jet Express (fast hover crafts), the Goodtime I (a leisurely trip on the Lake), private sailboat or powerboat, etc.
The Labor Day Weekend celebration is different this year because of the Bicentennial of the Battle of Lake Erie. For complete info on all of the activities, go to: http://battleoflakeerie-bicentennial.com/.
We took the GoodTime I to Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island , on Thursday, August 29, 2013 for a day, to watch the arrival of the Tall Ships, the begining of the of the Bicentennial of the Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial celebration. You have the opportunity to be a part of the Celebration Saturday, Sunday & Monday (8/31, 9/1 & 9/2).
The reinactment of the Battle will take place on Monday, 9/2. Currently the British Tall Ships are in Canadian waters and the American Tall Ships are in American waters. .

Put-in Bay is flying both the American flag and Canadian flag in various locations in honor of the Bicentennial, which has meaning for both countries.
