Taxes on your Wisconsin Forestland getting too high, We Can Help?forest

Wisconsin’s Managed Forest Law (MFL) is a landowner incentive program that encourages sustainable forestry on private woodlands in Wisconsin. Together with landowner objectives, the law incorporates timber harvesting, wildlife management, water quality and recreation to maintain a healthy and productive forest. Sustainable forest management benefits Wisconsin’s economy, hunting, fishing, wildlife, recreation, soils, waterways, and air quality, and renews our beautiful forests for everyone to enjoy.

forestTo participate in the MFL program, landowners designate property as “Open” or “Closed” to public access for recreation, and commit to a 25 or 50 year sustainable forest management plan. The plan sets the schedule for specific forestry practices which landowners must complete. In return, MFL participants make a payment in lieu of regular property taxes plus a yield tax on harvested trees. Yield taxes go to the local municipality to help offset the annual property taxes that are deferred while properties are enrolled in the MFL.

Bob: That sounds like a great program and you can harvest trees besides. Am pretty sure we have something like that in California. Another thing you can do, and a lot of land owners have done this in Del Norte County CA, you can put your land under "Conservation" and keep the land, but are under different lower tax rules.  I'll have to read up on that.

Great FAQ on the question,  My Forest Land Taxes are Too High, Can You Help?  I hear this question many times with home buyers especially first time home buyers.  Taxes are a hard pill to swallow for many buyers.

Great information, unless we stand up for ourselves when taxes are getting out of hand, no one will do it for us. I know those you represent are thankful.

Great if yo have long term ideas.  But myself, I looked at something simalar in Minnesota and there is no way I want the state to have any kind of control over  my land and who I can leave on it when or how

Thanks for stopping by friends, for some this is a great program, helping the environment while saving taxes, for others like William and myself it is more important to keep the government out of control of our land.

I work with both camps and find the best options for both groups.
