Streets Close to Schools have a Lower Speed Limit in Katy / Cypress
School started in both Katy and Cypress this past Monday August 26, 2013. As everyone should know the streets close to and surrounding the various schools have a lower speed limit during set periods of time each day with one time period in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Those speed limits should be followed by all of us and even in the off hours every driver needs to be careful driving through a school zone area.Unfortunately there are always numerous drivers who think they are above the law. I look at this whole concept as a Duh! There are or could be children playing or walking or just present. Caution needs to be observed.
I know virtually every Texan thinks it is their inalienable right to speed when driving. I am guilty of speeding without question but I always slow down near any school zone. I also follow the law and do not use a cell phone when I am driving in a school zone. In fact these days I rarely talk on a cell phone when I am driving and when I do it is tell the other party I am driving and will call them back when I arrive at my destination. Sometimes at stoplights i will read my Email but I pay close attention to when the light changes and then drop the phone right away.
On the fourth day of school I was driving past a Junior High School in Cypress and as I got close I moved from the left hand lane into the right hand lane as many times I have had another driver tailgate me until the school zone ends while I was driving the the speed limit. I noticed in my mirrors a monster pickup was barrelling down the street in the left hand lane and he shot past me like I was almost standing still as he was obviously going much faster than the 25 MPH school speed limit. The school zone limit lasts until 9 AM and it was about 8:53 AM. This guy then slows down not to pay attention to the school zone but to let my car get even with the seats of the truck. Then he leans across the front seat and gives me the evil eye. Of course in his hand is a cell phone as this idiot is talking on the phone.This jerk committed two offenses with even trying. He finally sped up as all I did was shake my head at him with no appropriate hand signals being given by me. ( I know what a shock!) He then hit the gas and takes off.
As soon as his truck is way past me I check my mirrors and here comes a POS mini van in the left hand lane speeding and we are still in the school zone. This lady who is driving has several kids climbing all around the van with no seat belts being utilized and of course she is talking on her cell phone. She is completely oblivious to everything that is going on and especially to her driving.
Speeding in school zones is a pet peeve of mine and I cannot believe school is back in session less than a week and the adults are in midseason form of speeding in these zones. Wake up and smell the roses before some poor child gets seriously hurt becauses of your total disregard for the rights of innocent children! One of those children who will get hurt by these bad drivers could be your own! .
