As children, we learn a lot of things from our parents. They pass down religious, family and holiday traditions. When we question our parents about WHY we do things a certain way they tell us because that's the way it's always been done. My family listens to the Johnnie Mathis and Andy Williams Christmas albums when making cut out Christmas cookies. Why? Because that's how my mother always did it.
When it comes to fashion, I know many people no longer follow the rules that our mothers taught us when we were little girls. Some of these rules tend to attract the same question - Why?
So now that it is Labor Day weekend and I find myself putting away our white clothes. My kids want to know Why? I have no idea why. However, I am certain that it is a faux pas to wear white shoes, purses, belts or pants tomorrow through Memorial Day. White shirts, jackets and sweaters are okay, just not bottoms or accessories.
My mother has moved to Florida where she claims that white is allowed year round because it feels like summer all year. It's weird when your mother breaks the very rules that she taught you.
Well, I live in Maryland, not in Florida so I guess I'll have to pull out the Winter Whites.
Will you be wearing white tomorrow?
