Fairs and Festivals Nearby New Braunfels 2013
Usually when you think New Braunfels, you think summertime and Schiltterbahn. While proud of our summer fun, fall doesn’t slow us down. There are a plethora of fairs and festivals like the well-known Comal County Fair and Wurstfest but there is also Meatopia, the Annual Gruene Music and Wine Fest, the Texas Clay Festival, the Turkey Trot, the Texas Book Festival and more!
Comal County Fair and Rodeo – September 24th – 29th
Nothing says it is Fair time like the kick off of the Comal County Fair and Rodeo, now in its 119thyear! A classic county fair, there is a carnival, rodeo, fair queens and FOOD, FOOD, FOOD! A true community event, many locals business shut down on Friday, or Parade Day as the locals call it, to join in the parade that features kids and adults from businesses to band and everything in between! A true New Braunfels favorite and one of the oldest traditions.
27th Annual Gruene Music and Wine Fest – October 10th -13th
Benefitting the United Way, the Annual Gruene Music and Wine Fest features some of the best music, food, and wine in Texas. Four fun filled days where all events take place in the historic Gruene Hall and The Grapevine Vineyard in downtown Gruene.
21st Annual Texas Clay Festival – October 26th & 27th
A nod to the more creative types in our community, the Annual Texas Clay Festival features potters and sculptors showcasing and selling there one-of-a-kind art as well as teaching the public a thing or two about their trade. A true family friendly event, this festival is free and features hands on activities for the kiddos. Come on out and support the local arts!
Texas Book Festival – October 26th & 27th
Benefitting libraries all over the state, the Texas Book Festival is held in the State Capitol building and hosts more than 250 authors from all different age groups and genres! There will be readings, presentations, panel discussions, book signing, cooking demonstrations, live music, local food and vendors from around the state! A great place to support literacy, authors and libraries and fun for the whole family!
Wurstfest – November 1st – 10th
The 10 Day Salute to Sausage is another New Bruanfels favorite and well-known tradition. There is awesome music, traditional dress, performances, excellent beers and more fried food than should be contained in any one area! A can’t-miss event, see more information in this blog post .
Meatopia – November 2nd & 3rd
Traditionally held annually in New York, Meatopia is coming toSan Antonio this year! More than 30 chefs will unite with the best meat producers to show us a thing or two about meat. There will also be several events.
Downtown Lighting of the Tree – November 16th
What better way to get into the spirit of the holidays than the lighting of the tree in downtown New Braunfels! Small town living at its finest! I promise no one will judge you if you feel the need to break out in a chorus of “Welcome Christmas.”
Turkey Trot – Thanksgiving Day, November 28th
If you are ready to burn off some of the calories accumulated in the previous festivals AND support a great cause, the Turkey Trot is the place to do it! Held outside of the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin, there is a timed and untimed 5 mile run, a one milk way and a Kid’s K. There is also an art contest in the spring for that year’s logo.
Wassailfest – December 5th
Perhaps lesser known, Wassailfest is another highly anticipated festival in New Braunfels. Local business fire up a friendly competition and provide some of the most delicious and unique wassails around. While nothing is more family friendly than a stroll around downtown in the crisp winter evening, there will be samplings of wassail for the 21 and up crowd. Be sure to fill out your form and turn it in at the end of the evening!
