Fotos On The Fly - Fire in the Sky - Peekskill Riverfront Green Park

This photo was taken at Riverfront Green Park right by the train station in Peekskill NY.  I visited the park a couple of times during the summer to and decided to try to capture the late afternoon into early evening light.  In the end, I took quite a few photos of the area, but this fire show was probably the most dramatic of the photos.  I was taking panoramas in the late, late afternoon light when the cloud cover started showing signs of  a really interesting sunset.  If the cloud cover remained, I knew we were in for a treat, so I stayed put and watched and waited as the sun slowing went down.  I was in luck, the clouds stayed put and caused the sun to filter through in this really unique way.  The sunset was bright yellow and it was like a fireball in the sky.

On an evening such as this it was not just me and my camera.  First of all, Jade (my Siberian Husky) joined me in the park and we had a really nice walk.  Many local residents were also taking advantage of the evening.  My dog is far more interesting than I am and several people approached me to say hello to Jade!   I noticed from a couple of my trips to this location that this is a well-loved park that residents take full advantage of.  There is also a spectacular 911 memorial that I photographed on a different occasion. Very impressive and moving.

This type of photography is useful for agents trying to brand themselves to a town or neighborhood.  It also helps home buyers to get a feel for the area when considering where they are looking to live.  Very often buyers come to the Westchester market overwhelmed by the options with respect to location. Towns, villages and cities tend to meld into one.  Photos like this can help set a neighborhood or municipality apart from the pack and also help brand the agent.

Good morning, Ruthmarie.  That is really pretty and striking.  I love that area of the hudson and love how the orange is captured in the picture.

Amazing photo, Ruthmarie!  It looks like a gigantic sun partially visible between the notch in the hills!  Such vivid colors!

Hi Debbie, I kept watchng and hoping this is what would happen - or something nearly like this.  Had the cloud cover moved a lot, the impact wouldn't have been as great.  But it was the hope of something like this that kept me there.  It was the same for otheres in the park, they weren't taking photos, but they knew there was a display to enjoy.

Hi Sharon and Bruce - Yes, but there are clouds above and below which is why the light filters that way.  It was better than anything I hoped for.

Hi Tom - It was.  Everyone who was out enjoying the evening seemed to just stay to watch the sun go down.  It was a great feelig.
