When You Build, Do You Really Get What You Want?

By

I am sure every agent has experienced this because I, personally, went through it!

It doesn't matter what price range your clients are in or what they are looking for, have your clients ever actually found EXACTLY what they are looking for?  I mean, is the closet ever big enough, the yard wide enough, the curb appeal just right?  Most buyers are usually compromising on at least one element when they purchase a home.

I heard it this weekend, "If only this home were on that lot."  Then the next statement is, "I guess we will never get what we want until we build."  I've heard that more times that I have fingers and toes, but I know from my own past experience, even when you build, it's never perfect!

I think halfway through the building process you start thinking of things that you want to change or add and continue to look at model homes and comparing your future abode with those around you.  I think that whenever you build a home, it's such an emotional process that you make many decisions based on those emotions instead of practicality.  Like why the heck do we have a two story living room with South and West exposures?  Stupid!  During the winter, I can't be in my kitchen from 2-5 and we just spent about $1,000 for remote control blinds for two of the windows.  That is to combat the sun that I can't stand from 4-7 during the summer.  If only my builder would have warned me!  But, that would be asking too much now.

So, if anyone has any solutions to this, please don't hesitate to share the wealth!
