Hidden Saratoga Creek Trail in La Rinconada Area of Los Gatos, Calif.
by Michelle Carr Crowe
This hidden Saratoga Creek Trail located in the La Rinconada Area of Los Gatos, Calif. truly is "a secret place"-the trail opening is located between two houses! (Click this link or photo below to see video).
While driving to the very end of Bicknell Road in Los Gatos, Calif., there are parking spaces to the left before reaching the dead end of the cul-de-sac. This is open "public" parking for the few who know about this trail.
The very first home I helped a client buy was on Bicknell Road in Los Gatos, which is where I learned about this hidden trail from the owners. The buyers and I almost missed the hidden trail opening the first time we went to check it out. Just when you fear you're about to invade someone's privacy, you finally see the entrance.
During the fall and winter months, there is a small rivulet, Saratoga Creek, that runs along much of the trail. In the summer, Saratoga Creek is almost always dry, although there are some wet areas.
The Hidden Saratoga Creek Trail opening is located between two residential homes: 685 and 687 Bicknell Road. (click this link or the photo to see the Hidden Saratoga Creek Trail Los Gatos, Calif. video.)
The trail is about a medium as far as difficulty, mainly for the rough uneven terrain. There is no guardrail, so it is best for adults and older children with supervision. Not recommended for seniors who need assistance (walkers, canes or wheelchairs). While not too steep, this hidden Saratoga Creek trail does have a constant downward range (or an upward one if coming from the opposite direction).
The trail ends at another hidden gem in the neighborhood, La Rinconada Park.
La Rinconada Park features a par course, benches, drinking fountains, doggy "doo-doo" bag dispensers, picnic benches, a playground, expansive grassy play areas, a tire swing and a tennis court.
