The rapid advancement of technology has impacted nearly every facet of our lives. As every child of the 80′s knows, video killed the radio star. The music industry has seen much disruption since that song was released in 1979, from MTV to Napster to the iPod and now streaming services like Pandora and Spotify, the industry will never be the same. The internet has caused similar disruption in the travel and financial services industries, allowing consumers to shop and purchase travel tickets and securities without travel agents and stock brokers. So why hasn’t the internet caused similar disruption in the residential real estate industry?
I am see more homes listed by Internet companies recently, don't know what this is going to do to local listing services.
Tina I think this is much more of a reality in foreclosures than FSBO's. I think banks would love to eliminate our jobs...and they have tried. Eye to eye contact still creates relationships. But Amazon and eBay have offered the opportunity to 'save money'. The more time we spend looking at our iPads or texting instead of another person only creates the isolationism needed to destroy the careers of many... Great blog!
The one issue that a true internet company can not do is the contracts and other paperwork involved with a real estate transaction. It is possible that they could become the new brokers for agents in the future.
