Cantata is a small neighborhood in Aviara, an upscale resort residential area of South Carlsbad anchored by the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort (formerly the Four Seasons Aviara Resort).
Where is the Cantata Neighborhood Located?
Cantata is located in South Carlsbad, just north of Batiquitos Drive, and bordering the Batiquitos Lagoon less than 2 miles from the ocean, just north of Encinitas, and about 25 miles from downtown San Diego.
Why Do People Live in Cantata?
With many beautiful views…hills, Batiquitos Lagoon, or the Aviara Golf Club course depending on location…Cantata appeals to primary and second-home buyers. The neighborhood itself is small, with only 48 1 and 2-story homes, adding to a feeling of privacy, yet is only a short distance to amenities, shopping and dining, and of course the beaches, plus excellent Carlsbad Schools provide a draw to Cantata.
Aviara is an affluent and resort-like residential community close to the beaches. Other than at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, there are no stores, shopping areas, restaurants, or commercial operations in Aviara but they are very close by and readily accessible from Poinsettia or Aviara Parkway both east and west.

What’s it Like to Live in the Cantata Neighborhood in Carlsbad?
First, the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort offers upscale shopping (it’s limited), several restaurants for dining (Vivace is the signature restaurant), a comfortable bar with an outdoor terrace offering gorgeous views of the grounds and the ocean plus a world class spa. You can also enjoy indoor or outdoor dining at The Argyle Steakhouse, located at the Golf Course Clubhouse on Batiquitos Drive. There are jazz concerts in the summer, annual fireworks and other events to enjoy at the Resort.
Cantata homes were built in 1995 and 1996, similar to much of Aviara, and there is a consistent look (primarily Spanish and Mediterranean) and feel throughout. Lush vegetation is plentiful and many streets are lined with palm trees and other mature plantings and flowers, and are beautifully tended year-round. Homes range in size from 2593 SF to 3216 SF wit 3 or 4 bedrooms and 3 – 4 baths.
What’s Going on Nearby the Cantata Neighborhood?
Everything Cantata residents need in terms of recreation, services, shopping and dining will be found in and around the Aviara neighborhood. Venturing outside Aviara, residents can easily enjoy dining and shopping in La Costa to the east along El Camino Real. You’ll find high end shopping at The Forum to the south, or to the north at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets Mall.
Of course there is golf at the Aviara Golf Club right down the street from Cantata, or just a few miles away at the La Costa Resort and Spa. The South Carlsbad beaches are just minutes away, and the Batiquitos Lagoon and wildlife preserve that borders Aviara (across the street from Cantata) is a popular area for hiking, running and bird watching with miles of trails (no boating, fishing or swimming). Nearby tourist attractions include Legoland, the Museum of Making Music (video), The Flower Fields (open from mid-March until early May) and the Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch Park in Rancho Carrillo.
Just a mile east on El Camino Real you’ll find the Carlsbad City Library and the popular city-owned Cannon Art Gallery (video from Skate Art Exhibit).
What Schools will Cantata Children Attend?
Cantata children will attend 1 of the 2 Carlsbad Unified Schools for younger children - Aviara Oaks Elementary and Aviara Oaks Middle Schools. These schools are in the Aviara community. Older students will go to either Carlsbad High School or the newly built (2013) Sage Creek High School (school choice).
