If you are looking for fun, great food, and great beer, then look no further than Oktoberfest here in Summit County!! There are a variety of festivities throughout the many towns of Summit County that celebrate Oktoberfest in the month of September.
Oktoberfest was originated in Munich, Germany, and is a 16-day celebration celebrating the wonderful hops and barley brews. Traditionally the beers served at Oktoberfest must be a minimum of 13.5% Stammwürze, approximately 6% alcohol. Through the years the traditional Munich festival has changed, but ultimately remains one of the largest fairs attracting more than 6 million visitors each year. They have tried to remain it as a family friendly event allowing only quieter music during the day hours with dedicated family tents beginning in 2005. 2013 will mark the 203rd Annual Oktoberfest in Germany.
Traditional Bavarian foods you can find at Oktoberfest include: Würstl (sausages) along with Brezeln (pretzel), Hendl (chicken), Schweinebraten (roast pork), Schweinshaxe (grilled ham hock), Reiberdatschi (potato pancakes), Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), Knödel (potato or bread dumplings), Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), Sauerkraut or Rotkohl/Blaukraut (red cabbage) along with such Bavarian delicacies as Obatzda (a spiced cheese-butter spread) and Weisswurst (a white sausage).
