Why I Love Old Homes

Old home in New Braunfels

As a mother, I know I shouldn't play favorites. This is also true of being a REALTOR®, but I just can't help myself. Old homes will always have a special place in my heart.

For one thing, there is much more texture to an old home. There is something so special about the layers of crusty paint on an old door. Floors that creak and walls that have been painted and plastered so many times they have a new texture all together. The way the rain falls on a tin roof is so relaxing and welcoming.

Old homes that age well are like people that age well - absolutely beautiful. Much in the same way there are wrinkles from smiling, there are moldings that aren't perfect and that creates a charm instead of an annoyance in its imperfection.

In general, old homes tell a story. They are cozy and warm and welcoming. They have always been my favorite and will always be my favorite. It is part of the reason I chose to move to New Braunfels - historic homes everywhere!

But, just to be fair, if old homes are not your cup of tea, check out this blog post on the top 5 reasons to buy new.

Kelle, older homes do have the charm and character the new homes lack.   I enjoy showing these homes too.

Kelle, I know what you mean about older homes.  They do have a special character about them.  My first investment property was a 100 year old Victorian...talk about character....and maintenance!

Kelle - Old homes do have a special flare that you do not see in the newer homes. Not everyone can see and appreciate that feeling that you have; but they know where they can go to find that older home in the New BraunfelsTX area!

Thanks for the post today.

Yes Nick, the maintenance was what made this family sell this darling home. The young couple that bought it are well prepared and equipped to handle the work that needs to be done.

Tom, I love these houses and would love one of my own one day to love on, and yes tell anyone thinking about this area that these older homes go FAST and if they want one they need local eyes on the market!
