“Foodie Fridays” in Austin

Dories picks 9-13-13

Let’s go international again this weekend. I discovered a wonderful place off Anderson Lane right across from the gym I joined called "Body Business." How about a trip to Thailand?  This restaurant consistently earns rave reviews from food critics who say her food is so good you’d think you were back in the homeland. I think it's worth checking out..why not give it a try! Don't let Friday the 13th scare you off from trying something new:).

MADAM MAM’S                        http://www.madammam.com

The owner of Madam Mam’s, Chatfuang, or “Mam” as she is called by those who know her, learned from the best! She grew up cooking and learning from her grandmother, who is renowned for her mastery of both Royal and family style Thai cooking. In fact, the generations of devotion to Thai culinary excellence is the heart and soul of her restaurant.  Mam came to Austin in 2001 after spending time as a restaurateur in Bangkok and opened a restaurant here based on the dishes and cooking style of her maternal ancestors.  Her menus show a dedication to only the freshest ingredients and true Thai taste – shortcuts are not for her!  A sample of what you’ll find on Mam’s menu: a Green Apple Salad: Sliced green apple mixed in lime juice, Thai pepper, palm sugar, fish sauce, tomato and garlic topped with roasted peanut and dried shrimp;  Tiger Cry: Grilled beef with Mam’s special sauce served with sticky rice and roasted Thai chili sauce and Tom Khlong: (Rice stick, Flat rice noodle, or Bean thread) in hot & spicy soup, made of roasted galangal, shallot, Thai pepper, garlic, mixed with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, lime juice, fish sauce and palm sugar, topped with roasted Thai pepper and Thai basils.  And, from her dessert menu how about: Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango or with Thai Egg Custard?  Whatever you try, you’ll enjoy the adventure of trying something new and different and you’ll also be saying “Aroi Mak”  when you are finished!
