When Was The Last Time You Got Lucky?????

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Keller Williams Elite

This morning I read a post written by Wayne Martin and titled “You Know Some Lucky People” and I thought I’d share my thoughts on this one.  I love to use the word “lucky” when I’m at the casino, especially when I’m winning.

Last night was one of those moments at the crap table!!  Played $25 chips “all the hard way” and made a score a few times with a hard 8 and a hard 4.  Remember, I’m the queen of bad habits, but I have a good time with it!!!

Transgressing here…. The use of the word “lucky” is ideal when at the casino; or connecting with that sexually attractive person; or buying a lottery ticket that pays off!!!  You have the idea, right??

When it comes to business “lucky” does not apply.  “Lucky” does not and should not be used when referencing anything to do with business.  A “lucky” real estate agent is one who has paid his/her dues.  It’s a real estate agent who has devoted time, money and energy into advancing his/her skill level to result in a desirable income with respect and admiration from co-workers.

“Lucky” is not a description of a top producer.  “Lucky” is a name given to a dog with three legs, matted fur, blind and deaf.  “Lucky” is borderline disrespectful and a sign of jealousy of a productive real estate agent.  If you feel “lucky” put that feeling to good use and buy a lottery ticket; or visit a casino; or just hook up with that “right person” but keep business and the word “lucky” separate.

Barbara, I consider myself lucky every single day. I find a positive attitude is the way to success, and I don't use lucky in a negative way. I celebrate every agent's success in my office, because I believe success breeds success.

Barbara:

I love this article!  You are so right - luck is not a business process that provides any kind of return.  Hard work and paying your dues accomplish this.

Your article reminds me that "the harder I work, the luckier I get."

Thanks!

Linda

Barbara, luck and success in business don't belong in the same sentence. Some who sit in the office every day, all day long, day in and day out may think they're lucky to get one walk-in who ends up purchasing a house but even they give up so many other opportunities they could've had if they weren't just sitting in the office so to me, it's not luck as sooner or later, they will get one buyer on their floor time. Success takes hard and and consistent work each and every single day!

I wonder why my other post required me to provide my email address. But anyway, thanks for sharing your views about luck Barbara.

Barbara, good job, and have played craps a few times.   You are right, a solid business plan does not need LUCKY in the vocabulary!

I haven't read that post, but most of what appears to be "luck" is really hard work, good thinking and planning and follow through.   - Debbie

Hi Barbara: I had a wonderful sale earlier in the year. $6.85 Million...was I lucky? No, I dropped everything ever time my client called, and was always available.. I knew that in that price range, every agent had to open up every home we viewed.. she could have left me at any time if she liked someone better...

Barbara - Yeah, I concur. There is no luck in business. You can have lucky days. Some are better than others but you are in charge of your success. You shouldn't leave it to chance. Good post.

Hi Barbara - I rarely use the word lucky -- hmmm, perhaps I should but I have been fortunate in many situations.

I hate it when people who aren't successful in this business tell me how lucky I am.  Really?  You mean the luck that has me working when they are out shopping all day or lunching with their friends?  The luck that has my schedule jam packed with appointments when theirs is filled with non-working social functions.  You get out of this job what you put into it.

Hi Barbara.  Totally agree and love this post.   Lucky is what you get when you don't have to work for something.

Barbara, I am lucky! The harder I work, the luckier I get.  The more risk I take, the luckier I get. The more people I reach out to, the luckier I get. Yep, I am lucky.

Hi Barbara.  in my family, we define lucky as "being prepared BEFORE opportunity knocks."  That's the hard work behind what looks like "luck."
