This is not a trick question

This is not a trick question.

“When you hire an outside cleaning service to wash all the windows in a house inside and out, do you expect them to replace the screens when they are finished”?

Sun City Texas

Rugg Realty has been busy, busy, busy, the entire year helping buyers find their new homes and marketing existing home here is Sun City Texas.  Inevitably, we are asked to recommend service providers such as handymen, cleaners, painters, etc who can help get the the house in marketable condition or move in condition.

I recently hired a company to do some work for Rugg Realty and I was paying the bill.  We agreed on a price, we agreed on the scope of work, and we agree on when it would be done.  I genuinely thought I had covered my bases.  Not so fast!

Apparently, putting the screens back after washing the windows is not part of what I should have expected.  It wasn’t discussed, the cleaner refused to do it without an additional fee, and she decided to charge me a late charge when her invoice wasn’t paid within the time limit she decided.  This was despite that fact that I had telephoned her, texted her, and e-mail her with no response.

So, what say you?

I suppose that is a question that needs to be clearly answered up front. Since in our area many homes have VERY HIGH two story windows, its seems the job would be half done if you didn't put the screens back. I blame the window cleaning company in your case, cause that should be very clear what they do on the job and TELL YOU. You are totally right to be incensed with them, and the late fee is more than ridiculous. They will get such a bad word of mouth reputation they will go out of business. The point is to DELIGHT customers, not make them angry...

Fire them and get a new company. We are what we suggest when it comes to services.

Sounds like someone that will soon be out of business. Think they lead you down the path.

Brian, I would have assumed that the service company would have returned the windows to the state that they were prior to their service work. It is akin to a handyman sweeping up after completing a job. It IS expected as a customary task to be incorporated in the work. If this window washer was so lazy to not complete the task, I would not hesitate to not only let them know of your dissatisfaction, but also all your peers.

Brian, if they had to remove the screens to clean the windows, they should have replaced them when finished.  Apparently, they have no regard for customer service, and this will be the beginning of the end for them.
