On Sunday, September 15, 2013 Shelburne Orchards will be hosting the 12th Annual Small Farms Food Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their orchards located at 216 Orchard Road in Shelburne, Vermont.

This festival will have many delicious foods available to taste from local farms and food producers.  There will be several bands playing live music throughout the day.

Children can enjoy tractor rides, a petting zoo, hay bale maze, rope swing, tractor playground, face painting, rope making, juggling and apple prints.

The events is free to children under 6.5 and kids at heart over age 65.  All others contribute a low cover charge of $5 to join in the day’s festivities.  A donation of non-perishable food items for our local Food Shelves would be appreciated.

For those who would like to pick their own apples on Shelburne Orchards scenic 80 acres of land, McIntosh and Gala are perfectly ripe with Honey Crisp expected to be ripening within the next ten days to two weeks.  The McIntosh are at their peak right now – the perfect balance of sweet and tart.  Bartlett pears are also being picked now.  Most apple varieties are $1 per pound with a few varieties at $2 per pound.

The ‘Apples to iPods’ wooden apple is now hidden in the orchard.  Several orchards are participating in this contest.  The lucky apple picker who finds a wooden apple hidden in the tree wins an Apple iPod.

The Cider House Farm Market has apple cider donuts, new t-shirt designs and other goodies available.

Shelburne Orchards is open for the season now, seven days a week through October 31st – Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For more information visit ShelburneOrchards.com

Come out and enjoy all that Shelburne Orchards has to offer!

Great local post, Lisa.  Love the idea of the wooden apple hidden somewhere in the orchard.

Those apples look fabulous. When my kids were little, we would pick apples and make applesauce.

Lisa, We own a rental home that has a huge apple tree in the backyard. This reminds me that it is time to go pick and freeze apples.
