Second Hand is First Choice for Me!

I have been browsing and purchasing from second hand stores off and on during the past 25 years.

When I was young and needed office attire for my first office position I went shopping at my neighborhood Goodwill. I also found local second hand stores ran by different organizations through out the High Desert in Southern California. (organizations raising money)

As I started having children I was able to purchase baby clothes, toys, books and games from second hand stores. I cleaned up the toys and they were as good as new and a lot less expensive. My boys always seemed to lose their winter coat at school so I stopped buying them new coats and let them pick out a coat at the second hand store. They were so inexpensive that I didn't care if they lost them.

When my son needed a graphics calculator last year for his math class I headed straight to a local Pawn Shop. I was able to pick up the calculator for about 20 bucks. Graphics calculators retail at over $100 new. I find Pawn Shops to be the best place to find all things techy. TV's, computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, ect. They also carry DVD's, jewelry and many other items of value.

I am getting married in November and I will be searching for used formal wear and anything wedding related. My goal is to keep our costs down. Our budget is limited and we don't need to break the bank to get married. This is a second marriage for both of us.

Want to decorate your home on the cheap? Browse second hand shops local to you.

The following is information and links for some of my favorite places:

Twice As Nice-a great place to trade in your clothes for store credit or cash. They have womens, plus sizes, mens, misses, kids and toddler items. I just purchased a nice blouse, sweater, T-shirt and a pair a great shoes all for $31! They carry many name brand items.

Savers-a great place local to Arizona to find your Halloween costume or put one together. They are a great place to shop at year around.

Second Chance Bridal-This store is on my list to check out. Not sure about their prices yet.

Goodwill-another great place to find or put together a costume. Goodwill also has home stores where you can find all things for the home. Linens, glassware, electronics, furniture, ect.

I would love to hear what bargains you find or have found from second hand stores.

I, too, like shopping at second hand stores for kids clothes and costumes and have been consigning their old clothes for years.  They are now teens and most of the consignment stores won't take teen sizes.  Didn't think about pawn shops for electronics though - I will have to keep that in mind next time I need something.

Great blog, Janelle!  I so hate shopping thrift stores, etc., but am truly inspired by the people who do and find great things on the cheap!  Way to go!

It is a game for me to see how much I can save. My fiance is a major coupon user. My inspiration comes from him.

Swapping is another great way to find something you need by swapping with someone else. You each benefit from the deal.

Goodwill had 50% off yesterday. I needed a small rolling suitcase and the red/yellow/white plug thing for the TV. Got both for under $9 total. It really does pay off for me to buy used.
