Have you ever visited a local farmers market or arts festival in your area? Well, South Richmond, Virginia, provided one of each yesterday! First, the South of the James Market typically runs on Saturdays from May thru December this year and was filled with activity yesterday. We stopped by there and found many wonderful vendors with fresh local produce. The mixture of colors was a feast for the eyes. Much or most of this produce is either certified organic or simply pesticide free and grown easily within a 100-mile radius of Richmond. Notice the photos below.
Fortunately, the SOJ Market offers a lot more than local fruits and vegetables. There's a wide array of products available depending on a given Saturday. One example is a local nursery company that sold us another fig tree to put in our yard. The last full grown Brown Turkey fig tree I had was donated to Black Creek Farm almost two years ago. Luckily, I'm told by the farm owners that fig tree survived the transplant from our small backyard to that farm!

Above are beautiful pottery pieces by Gayle Ennis. She's another example of
the variety of vendor products often found at South of the James Market at
If the above examples still wouldn't be enough variety for you, also there was another event held yesterday nearby, The 43rd Street Festival of the Arts. Below are couple sample photos of that event.

What have you done lately to show support of local businesses in your area? When we support local business owners, often that support somehow comes back to us---eventually!
