Being a Trash Fairy has its rewards!

No, Tinkerbell has not fallen upon hard times.  I am the Trash Fairy.  Is that snickering that I hear from my wife in the background?

True story:  When we first moved into our special community here on Hutchinson Island, we met our next door neighbor who suffers from acute asthma.  She is unable to walk very far, much less carry a bag of trash to the dumpster which is about one hundred yards away.  Anyway, one morning as Pam and I were leaving for our morning exercise, I noticed a bag of trash outside of her door.  Not really giving it much thought, I picked it up and deposited it in the dumpster.  A few days later the same thing happened.  A couple of days went by and there was a bag of trash again.  As I reached down to pick it up, my neighbor opened the door and exclaimed, “It’s you!  You’re my Trash Fairy!”

Since then it has become somewhat of a ritual.  She leaves her trash, I pick it up, and when she sees me out and about, she lovingly introduces me as her Trash Fairy.  I have been called a lot worse!

Now for the unplanned reward.  Last night,  I had just returned from an open house.  As we were getting ready for a little quiet time when there was a loud knocking on our door.  Even before I could reach the door, the knock came again.  I opened the door and there was my neighbor all out of breath pointing to this couple in the yard.  “They stopped me”, she gasped between breaths, “and asked if I knew anyone who could show them some condos that were for sale!”

My wife and I spent a delightful hour or so showing this great couple from Fort Lauderdale around our community.  They will be returning next Saturday.  We have a whole day planned of viewing, lunch, and sightseeing.  In the words of a famous beer commercial, “ It don’t get no better’n than this!”

If this is the first time that you have read my blog, my wife, Pam, and I recently relocated to Hutchinson Island, Florida from Maine.  By the way, we have a restored Maine farmhouse for sale near the coast. (sidebar)  Anyway, we both come from entrepreneurial backgrounds in consumer products, advertising, and marketing.  After taking six months off the entrepreneurial juices started flowing again and we decided that real estate might be the best avenue for me to use my life experiences in business.  We thoroughly enjoy our adventure here on Hutchinson Island and in real estate.  I have tried to make my website as informative as possible.  However, if you have any questions, Pam and I look for almost any excuse to explore.

Another story of "what goes around, comes around"!  Or, "one good deed deserves another". You obviously were not looking for any sort of payback but just wanted to help out your neighbor.  Now, you have a potential client/friend.  Congrats for being a neighborly neighbor and good luck with the potential sale!

Hi Kathi,  Thank you for your comment.  I really did not think of real estate as being a service business but life has a way of showing you the truth.  Thank you again.
