It is that time of year again, to celebrate the diversity of the filmmaking arts at the Breckenridge Film Festival 2013! This is the 33rd anniversary for this Breckenridge festival, hosted on September 19-22.  Since opening the doors in 1981, the mission of the Breckenridge Film Festival is to "challenge, stimulate and enrich the intellectual and cultural life of our community through the celebration of filmSimply to inspire, entertain and educate."  They do this through drama, comedies, short dramas, short comedies, documentaries, and spiritual films.  This is one of the oldest film festivals in the country, done as a non-profit organization ran by volunteer board members.

Recently released was the opening film scheduled for September 19, at 7:30 with the Colorado premier of "Chasing Shakespeare."  This is a Danny Glover directed modern take of Romeo and Juliet.  His film won the Best Feature Film at AFI Cannes Film Festival, Audience Favorite at SXSW and winner of several awards, including Best Actor at FirstGlance Hollywood Film Festival.

There are more than 50 films lined up as part of this festival.  They have gathered various types of films to cater to the general larger audience who attends.  You are able to watch and enjoy anything from love stories, heart felt dramas, short comedies, documentaries about snowboarding and skiing, kayaking, and musicians.  Filmmaker Anthony Powell's documentary "Antarctica: A Year On Ice" is one of the world-acclaimed documentaries that will also be shown this year.  Click HERE for a line up of some of the movies being featured in this year's line-up.

The venues for this festival are spread throughout Breckenridge.  Some of these include: Riverwalk Center, Breckenridge Christian Ministries, Breckenridge Town Hall, Summit Media Labs, The Warming Hut, Breckenridge Backstage Theatre, The Village at Breckenridge, and Beaver Run Resort to name a few.

We are sure to keep our families and children in mind when setting the festival schedule with a free film Saturday morning at the Children's Program, this year featuring "Hotel Transylvania" with free pizza from Downstairs at Eric's for the youngsters.  Join us in Breckenridge for films, premiers, parties, the all-new Adventure Reel, children's programs, and the local high school and college program films.
