Part time agent ... Part time results

By
Real Estate Sales Representative with Crye*Leike Real Estate Leaders, Inc.

Yesterday, I unloaded a little frustration at our office sales meeting. I have been down about the market and my activity but trying hard to stay positive. I had also been down about the results I have seen from my efforts. Mail outs, virtual tours, open houses, building a website, and advertising on my car...Real Estate is about effort but sometimes its about luck too. Being in the right place at the right time...floor duty is great!! Its also about relationships and building your reputation through word of mouth. Even though I feel like I'm doing everything I possibly can, still not a lot happenning. I have a full time job besides being a Realtor. I love the activity of both my jobs. I put my full time job ahead of other things and I wonder sometimes why my broker, Larry, doesn't just say what do you expect. But he never does...he always cheers me up and sets me back on the right track. It dawned on me that I will see part time results because I am part time. So I'm going to hang in there and keep working.

Took a break for a minute and received a floor call about a possible new listing...see it is looking up already.

I don't know how anyone could be successful at being an agent part time.  This business is 24 hours a day - hard enough to take a day or two off - never mind 40 hours a week off.  I thought your title said it all.

Best of luck.

Gina-yeah...just need to grasp that I won't have more results since I can't give it my full time attention.

I agree, it is very hard to balance a real estate career, and another job at the same time.

I know that I'm in the minority of full-time agents, but I don't have a problem with part timers as long as they are professional.  More important than the number of hours worked is how smart you have worked and how consistent you've been.

Bob-what you say is true...kind of like that saying work smarter not harder. I definitely can multitask!

Thanks Michael!

I was a teacher for 5 years while I was also a real estate agent.  I produced more than lots of full time agents and finally quit the teaching job.  One of my vows as a beginner was that I would spend at least 15 minutes a day on real estate.  I'd make calls to people I'd met or walk around putting out cards or something directly real estate.  A little bit of definite time pays off eventually.  Keep it up.

Barbara Thanks for your comments. I didn't know you started out that way. Gives me hope!

You can start being a part timer.  Real estate can be a very rewarding career and it takes people like you to make it look even better.  There have been a lot of very successful agents that started part time, so don't give up.  The market is slow right now and as I have said before "you sling enough mud, some of it will stick"  so hang in there!
