Living large on a budget on beautiful Hutchinson Island Florida.

Hutchinson Island is a gorgeous twenty mile strip of Florida that is less than a mile wide which is located between the Indian River and the Atlantic Ocean.  South Hutchinson Island is connected to the mainland by three modern causeways which makes shopping, medical facilities, airports, and industry accessible within minutes.  Hutchinson Island itself was created for, and is being maintained for its unique quality of life.  While I cannot really speak for its creation, I can attest to its maintenance!

The first thing my wife and I noticed as we passed over the causeway to Hutchinson Island from Fort Pierce was all of the activity.  Not high traffic and hustle and bustle, but people doing stuff!  Walking, jogging, sun bathing on the Inlet Beach, fishing EVERYWHERE, swimming, grilling on the beach, bike riding, boats going here and there, but not crowded....just relaxed and people enjoying their environment.  It was love at first sight for us.

Our home is in a 55+ community called the Colonnades.  As newbies, it took us about an hour to be welcomed.  We signed up for a tennis breakfast, we were invited to one of their endless social events, and a great couple invited us to their dock on the Indian River for evening cocktails!  Since that first day we have met so many close friends.  And we are still enjoying our unique place here on Hutchinson Island.  We can walk to the Atlantic Beaches, walk to restaurants, walk to a supermarket, a pharmacy, a bank, a small hardware store, rent kayaks, fish anywhere, and if all else fails.....get rowdy on Tuesday night shuffleboard!

If I was reading this, my first question would be, "Okay, I hear you.  But what if I don't want to spend $500,000 on a place to spend my winters or to have a vacation home?"  And my answer would be, "you can have a condo in the Colonnades, on the water, with a boat slip for $500 a year, in the same place that I live......for....get this....$159,000!  And...financing is available for a second home for as little as 5% down.  As Bob Barker is famous for, "Come on down!"

If you have not read my blogs before, my wife, Pam, and I relocated to Hutchinson Island from Maine after we sold our last business.  Pam and I have been entrepreneurs virtually all of our lives.  We have started or been involved in start ups that we sold for over forty years.  I have always said that we work twice as hard for half the money just to keep from getting a real job!  After our last sale, we decided to permanently settle on our beloved Hutchinson Island.  However, entrepreneurial blood is in our veins, so real estate seemed to be a logical outlet for our energies.  What a great decision!  We love it!  Let us show you our unique island.  Oh, by the way, our home in Maine is for sale.  A well done restoration of a New England farmhouse with horse barn and farm pond only minutes from the coast!
