Used to live in California. Was there for a 6.5. Was enough to get me to move out of state. Guess I will take hurricanes anytime. You know if they are coming.

Hi Bill, Yes, the forces of nature are enough to get people to move. To each his own. Thanks for your thoughts!

Sandy, good reminders on how to propare for earthquakes, what to have on hand. More of us should take this to heart.

I've lived through some big ones in Alaska. They are unnerving...being prepared is pretty critical for survival. I always know a few seconds before one hits - unless they are really small and I'm sleeping. ( It sounds like that was the case for you too).

Good tips for every family. In our area, hurricanes are more common than earthquakes. All of us need to be prepared for emergency conditions.

Here in Chicago Land we have horrible cold weather but no hurricanes. I bet it is very scary. Also another interesting thing is that Lake Michigan is such a huge body or water and so powerful that there are almost never ever a tornado. They get swept out in the lake. The news often shows water swirls out in the lake but near the shore there has not been one since the 50's.

Have a great day Sandy
