Free Picnic This Saturday 9/21

Besides your State Fairs, few local events in America are more closely associated with Agriculture and old farm equipment than the Denton County Antique Tractor, Farm Equipment and Primitives Club’s annual fall meeting and picnic.

The event takes place this Saturday, September 21 from 9 – 4 P.M. at the home of Raymond and Mary Fenley home and barn located at 640 E. Jerningan Road in Copper Canyon, Texas.

What’s unique about this event is that the public is welcomed to a free picnic that includes Southern fried chicken and drinks, courtesy of the Fenley Family. All are invited (but not required) to bring a dish to share. Neighboring communities include Lewisville, Flower Mound, Lantanna, Argyle, Double Oak, and Highland Village.

There will be antique farm equipment and tools to see. This is a great opportunity to meet the neighbors and to find out if this is an area you’d like to live in too!

The Club does many wonderful things for the local communities, including scholarships to Denton County’s young students. Scholarship auctions will start at 1 P.M. If you want to help a college-bound high school senior and would like to donate something for the auction you can drop it off before the picnic. All donations are deductible because this is a 501-C3 non-profit organization.

To quote the Fenleys, “If anyone should ask me what was the most rewarding thing I have done in my life, I would have to say it would be starting the establishment of the scholarship for kids and the helping to raise money for the fund.”

WOW! What a wonderful event to meet and enjoy fellow neighbors, Patricia.  In today's world you don't see 'FREE Lunch' very often.  If I lived in area I would make huge pot of my mother's baked beans.  She started the pot night before any family gathering.  Kids and grandkids loved Grandma's beans.  Even though I make them they are not the same.

Hi Patricia -- what a great community event.  I wonder how many people attend -- if you attend, a follow-up post with photos would be great to see.

Hi Mary,

Thanks for the positive feedback! It is rare for a community member to offer a free lunch to the public and I really liked that old tradition of asking people to bring a dish and meet each other. And of course, the beauty of having an auction, all for the benefit of young students opportunity to be recipients of scholarship money is truly a gift from the heart!

Your mother's baked beans sound delicious! I'm sure it stirs up great memories for all the members in your family. What's really cool about you, is that you keep up the family tradition. You have the heart of gold Mary!

Michael,

I'm signed up for Karen Otto's (AR Stager) class at the local community college. I'm going to try to make it later that afternoon. A follow up report with photos or perhaps a video would be fun!

What a wonderful event this is and the Fenleys should really be commended for all of the great work they do.  Is this the guy with the huge barn with like a kazillion ovens in it?  I saw that one time on tv and this kind of rings a bell, maybe 60 minutes or something like that.

Hi Patricia,

Why are all of these really cool events outside my area?

You need to move closer so I don't have that far to drive. LOL

Have a great time at the FREE PICNIC.

Best, Clint McKie

Hi Patricia, great way for the Fenley Family to pay back to the community. An opportunity for the residents to meet and greet each others in this free picnic.

What a wonderful event Patricia-particularly since the Fenleys raise money for education-and that home made fried chicken must be wonderful! Hope you have a great time!
