What to do in Portland? Check with a local Realtor

I live in Olympia, WA, just about 2 hours north of Portland, OR. It's the perfect distance for a day trip or a weekend getaway. Contrary to Washington State, Oregon has no sales tax, so going shopping in Portland is an attraction all on its own. Before heading on any trip, I always check out the top bloggers on Active Rain to learn what hidden attractions or upcoming events I can explore at my destination. For the Portland region, my go-to source is Cindy Westfall with her blog called Cindy's Blog about Portland: http://activerain.com/blogs/cwestfall

Cindy does a great job representing her locality with a balanced blend of real estate news, community attractions and real estate insights.

I checked out her article about Edgefield not too long ago, http://activerain.com/blogsview/3691531/an-evening-at-mcmenamens-at-edgefield-   Edgefield is a quirky resort right outside of Portland. Before I have made my reservations there, I’ve checked out Cindy’s blog and detailed photos of the interior, grounds and even the full moon. They got me really excited to go and see all those things for myself. The map on her blog was very helpful as well. Edgefield was well worth the trip and I discovered and recognized all the places Cindy showed on her blog photos.

Other blogs from Cindy show pictures of beautiful Mt. Hoodand the Timberline Lodge, http://activerain.com/blogsview/3616774/photos-of-mount-hood-mt-jefferson-and-timberline-lodge-in-oregon, where I still want to visit.

This article about the Portland lighted ships parade already has me planning to coordinate my Christmas shopping trip to Portland with the date of the parade so I can make the most out of my stay. http://activerain.com/blogs/sandynelsonolympiarealestate#sthash.135FcM27.dpuf

Cindy’s blog inspires me to write more community blogs about Olympia, because, although smaller, it’s a town with many attractions and well worth visiting. Perhaps other Active rain members do what I do before heading out on a trip and will make Olympiatheir destination.

Sandy, I think I tried to comment on this and it didn't take...because I LOVE Cindy and she really does a marvelous job with localism posts and it is truly wonderful that you took her advice for places to see on your visit. I sure hope that Cindy saw this! (And you did a terrific job of describing areas that I know quite well, Like Edgefield).

We got to meet face-to-face at an AR meetup over 2 years ago--it was wonderful and I"ve got lasting friendships from that day!
