It seems to me that there are more birds of prey in my area....or I have gotten older and just notice things like that.

I always consider it to be a treat if I am fortunate enough to see a hawk.  Glad you were able to catch this one.

Hi Than,

I think their might be more as the electric companies have paired up with the federal and state agencies to protect their nests and also to keep them from getting electrocuted in the power lines but also think that you are more aware now as you are older and more mature. We have all turned into enviromentalists.

Hi Lisa,

Yes I love to spot them and get their pictures. This guy was really way up high as most of the   are about 1/2 the height of this one but I thought it was such a great picture of him looking over the valley in Calimesa.

Hi Jim,

I think we have many raptors but middle and northern CA have a lot more so I am guessing due to the cooler weather and more trees. Have a great weekend.

One day I am going to visit California. I have never been there but on TV it looks beautiful.

Hi Sussie,

California is beautiful and the birds love it here too. Weather is mild year-round and all sorts of water sports here. The Raptor birds are my favorite and I enjoy taking their pictures and listening to their screetching across the valleys.

For several years I had owls nesting in a couple of palm trees I had in my front yard!  One of them looked absolutely huge.  Yet, during a community fireworks display, one 4th of July, it became disoriented and kind of fell to the ground.  When my neighbor picked it up, we were shocked at how light in weight it actually was.  That big boy was almost entirely feathers, fluff and loft.  He mended well at a local wildlife refuge.  I think the larger birds and raptors are amazing!

Hi Myrl,

What a wonderful story as the raptors are so special and i think owls are so cute. Yes they are amazing birds and have the greatest eyesite to spot their prey.
