Bike Share in San Francisco has Arrived!

A trip to Washington D.C. was the first time I ever came across the idea of bike share and thought it was the coolest thing! I always thought it would be great if our cities offered the same. This year, bike share has arrived!

Bike Share SF

Since I didn't know much about it, I searched online and found this great artice about the Pros and Cons of Bike Share.

After the roll out in San Francsico and the Peninsula, Oakland is next. How exciting! Have you tried it yet?

Melanie, this is very exciting news.  I linked over to the article about pros and cons and this definitely looks like a very good thing.  The bikes are an attractive color.  It will be interesting to see how they work out.  I hope they get lots of use.

One thing about San Franciscans is they tend to be "early adopters" enjoying new ideas, like bike-share.  The car share concept has been very successful, and it seems that millenials are of the mind that they don't need to own something, like a car, they just want to use it when they need it.

What a novel Idea, we have tons of bike trails through out Shasta County and many localized where bike share would work along the river trails. How would one get this started? I know a few business men that might entertain this idea. Have a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year in 2014

Rod:  I'd contact someone at San Francisco Bike Coalition as they are all in the know about all things biking.  http://www.sfbike.org/?bikeshare overviews not only San Francisco but our regional bike share details.  I understand that one of the bike suppliers for share programs in the US has just declared bankruptcy but there are others out there this link has lots of information on the bike share industry as a whole http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2014/01/21/264582819/big-bike-sharing-suppliers-bankruptcy-doesnt-doom-u-s-programs.
