Getting Past the Dragon

I absolutely love attending monthly real estate office meetings.  I love meeting new agents, discussing the market, and sitting through the meeting to learn about real estate. Oh, I also enjoy letting the agents know a little about me, my business, and the home inspection industry.

It’s difficult to get into these meetings though.  You have to get past the dragon

A real estate office is an impenetrable fortress, with a fire breathing dragon at the front lines of their defense.  The formidable, fire-breathing foe is the gate-keeper, between you and the agents she is protecting.  If you cannot appease the defending champion, you can never acquire the treasure she protects—referring agents. Appeasing the dragon is simple, but not easy.

The dragon is weak to the temptations of chocolate, or other confections.  You need to determine what pleases her the most.  The dragon is not is not naïve though.  She knows, from the adventurers before you, that if she allows passage after one offering, you will never return.  You will need to make multiple, consistent, and generous offers. You need to prove to the dragon that she can trust you. It can take weeks, or even months for the dragon to let down her guard and trust you.  Once the trust is gained, she will allow access to her king or queen. It is simple, but not easy.

If you desire to have a successful and prosperous business, with access to the agents who need your services every day, you need to master the art of getting past the dragon.  Consistency is the key.  It is simple, but not easy.

Gaining and maintaining trust is the key pillar of sustaining any genuine relationship; good work on taking good care of the dragon.

Juan, this is funny.  I have found it easier to get by the dragon by getting to know the King or Queen first---then you don't even know there is a dragon at all.  :)

Charles is right.... another way is to get to know the dragon, serve it well, and the others will take notice and follow.

Sooner or later the king or queen will use you themselves---THAT is the time to get in the castle. :)  Another way that I have been sucessful with is to have an agent that likes you and has access to the castle bring you inside---they know the secret codes to get by the dragon.
