Halloween is Right Around the Corner in Katy - Here are some Security Ideas

The year is flying by and now Halloween is rapidly approaching. I am a planner and thinking about Halloween right now well in advance I think is a pretty good idea. Here are some quick security and safety tips and ideas:

Parents with children:

1. Make sure the child has eaten some type of dinner before venturing out for trick or treat

2. Instruct all the children including ( especially) teenagers to bring all items home for inspection  by the parents.

3. Parents should know the exact route their children will be taking.

4. If child is wearing a store bought costume make sure it is flame retardant.

5. all young children need at least one adult to accompany and this adult should take a cell phone with them.

Homeowners:

1. Clear the front yard of all items which someone might encounter such as hoses, tree branches, etc.

2. Battery powered decorations are preferred over candles.:

3. If you do use candles move the decoration away from where children could easily to access. Remember to blow out the candles when the night is over.

4. If not participating in handing out treat or treat items turn off all lights.

5. If participating in the festivities turn on as many light as possible.

6. Park cars on your driveway and make sure all are locked.

Trick-or-Treaters::

1. Carry and use a flashlight.

2. Go only  to homes which are lit up and not dark.

3. Stay in your familiar area and not venture into unfamiliar neighborhoods or parts of your own neighborhood.

4. Check costumes to make sure there is no dragging on the ground.

5. Take off masks while going house to house.

6. Watch carefully when crossing streets as costumes sometimes make a person difficult to see. Obey all traffic signals and signs.

7. Wear clothing of some form that has reflective markings.

8. Walk from house to house and do not run. This is not a race to beat all the other children.

9. Have fun but be careful.

As we all know Halloween can be a night loaded with trouble and or fun. Be careful and cautious and it should be a fun night. October 31, 2013 is a Thursday evening..
