Do You Play Better When you Play a Great Golf Course?

Pasatiempo Golf Club

Pasatiempo Golf Club

This week I was invited to Santa Cruz, California to play the historic and legendary Pasatiempo Golf Club. Pasatiempo was designed by the famous architect Alister McKenzie, who also designed Cypress Point Golf Club, Augusta National, and Royal Melbourne.  McKenzie's design philosophy is:

" A really great golf course must be a constant source of pleasure to the greatest possible number of plyaers.  It must require strategy in the playing as well as skill.  It must give the average player a fair chance and at the same time, it must require the utmost from the expert.  All natural beauty should be preserved, natural hazards should be utilized and artificiality should be minimized."

Pasastiempo Golf Club
does all of those things and more. You cannot help be in awe of the design and the condition of it's natural beauty.

Pasatiempo, a Spanish word meaning, "hobby", "past-time" or "relaxed passage of time" is consistently ranked in the top courses in the world and opened in September of 1929.

It was not my first time to play Pasatiempo, but I try a little harder, play a little better, and always get excited when I am given the opportunity to tee it up there! Our team took first in the Championship flight!

Kathy, I fully agree. One of my passion is being a High School Varsity Golf Coach. I've Been to the Louisiana State Tournament 2 times in the last 5 years. I notice from my players as well as my personal play that when you play a great coarse you will step up as well. Congrats on your win. Picture below is Holy Cross vs Jesuit @ Lakewood Golf Club New Orleans. This was the first match between the two schools since Hurrincane Katerina.

Kathy, I don't play but I would assume a great course would be exciting and motivating to play at your very best level of play.
