When we write a blog, we just never know where it might take us.  In most cases we're hoping for direct business from local home buyers and referrals, but that's not always the path a post may lead.

In 2011 we blogged regularly about a local school levy fight and the impact that fight was having on Little Miami School district home owners.  Frankly the impact was pretty brutal, adding on almost 10% more home value loss than neighboring communities for the same time frame.  And that post led to us being found by the pro-levy committee, a quote in a local magazine and our blog post being "lifted" almost in its entirety for publication in a local newspaper.  And that levy finally DID pass and home values are on the rebound.

And what we found it once you get a rep for having something the school treasurers and pro-levy supporters have, they find you.  We've been asked by multiple area school district supporters to provide similar analysis on home values for their district.  We crunch the numbers and provide them the results based on our local home sales.

Recently, that led to another request for the same and we blogged about what we determined for the West Clermont School district.  They're now coming up on levy attempt four and changing tactics.  The levy committee leader is teaming with some local high schoolers to produce a series of Youtube videos providing a pro-levy viewpoint from a series of viewpoints:  teachers, students, homeowners.  And this afternoon to present the real estate point of view, moi!!

Now when we started blogging a few years ago I'd have never thought I'd wind up in front of a camera providing perspective on the importance of passing a school tax levy, but as the title says, blogging can lead to unexpected places!

This is a wonderfully inspiring blog! We certainly never know what blog can lead to which is one of the great things about it. I've had a comment on a blog highlighted in a Washington Post article, been asked by a reporter to do a news segment on a blog written (unfortunately I was heading out of town when they wanted to do this...ugh), but yes, the opportunities are there. Elise, I suspect not many agents want to spend the hours it takes to crunch the numbers.  And of course the risk of taking a stand on an issue is there too.

Cindy, Murphy's Law on the timing!  Most of our media exposure has been quotes, so this is a first to get in front of the camera for something we didn't initiate.

Debbie, It's definitely a cumulative effect.  We're seeing more and more that our business is building because of it.

William, The data crunch was pretty clear to us on the initial school review. When they lost close to 23% value and neighboring districts were 5-14% off for comparable time frames, the school levy fight appeared to be the justification.

Joe, You provide good material that will engage people.  That cuts down the time frame for getting responses.

Bryan,  Definitely more time and effort invested vs. just writing a check for an ad in the school football program.  I just hope that it helps them with their efforts.
