Last day of Bicycle Sundays for 2013 - Bronx River Parkway

Home Builder with The Flooring Girl

Today, September 29, 2013 is the last day this year for Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway in Westchester County.

On Sundays from 10-2, the Parkway is open for bicyclists, joggers, roller bladers and even walkers (and strollers).  Cars are not allowed.  Generally, the Bicycle Sundays are in May- June and September, so look forward to a new kick off next May.

This is for the section of the Bronx River Parkway from the County Center in White Plains to Scarsdale Rd in Yonkers - a 13 mi round trip.  There is a portion of the highway under construction around the Crane Rd Bridge where it is only open for 1 lane each way.

There is parking at the County Center in White Plains for $5, but since it's Sunday, most of the towns will also have free parking.

Enjoy it while you can.  It's a beautiful Fall Day.

Hi Debbie, with such beatiful fall days you'd think they would at least run it through October.

The Bronx River Pkwy is a road I know well from having lived in NYC. How wonderful that it is closed to vehicular traffic some Sundays throughout the year and oh how I would love to bike it! I would also like to get back to your area for some autumn apple picking and crisp fall mornings. Hope you are finding time to enjoy some of the season's delights Debbie!

Endre - There are other highways that are parallel.  It works since it's Sundays and less traffic then (and this has been going on for years so people are used to it).

Joanna - Good for you. Yes, I know.  I did this path a few times when I was younger.  I really should walk it though. Maybe you and I should go together sometime.

Debbie, many times I would forget and plan my route along the Bronx River Parkway and it was closed.  I used to bike it but not recently.
