Why I Love Pennsylvania

I have lived in Pennsylvania for the majority of my life.  The only exception was the 6 years I spent in the US Army travelling the world and living all over the place.  Guess where I came back to?  Pennsylvania! When I was younger all I wanted to do was get out of Pennsylvania and move far away.  So why did I come back?  It started out because I wanted to get out of the Army and go to college.  I was a resident of Pennsylvania and Penn State University is a great school.  At the time Penn State was actually a cheap school for Pennsylvania residents.  So I packed up my stuff in Fort Drum, NY and moved back home!  I started school at Penn State York and then moved to the University Park campus in State College, PA.

I've lived in State College for the last 10 years and I've grown to love the place.  There was a brief moment of time in college when I considered transferring to the University of Tennessee but decided against it.  I'm glad I did.  Pennsylvania has a little bit of everything.  In State College we have professional level sports thanks to Penn State, great concerts come to town, amazing cultural events and wonderful speakers.  Yet you can go 30 minutes away and be deep in the woods.

Last week I closed on this great cabin in the woods.  There's no electric, plumbing, and heat is only from a wood stove but yet it's less than 45 minutes from my house.   I can go there to get away of the hustle and bustle of the real estate world but I still even have cell phone service!

Places like this exist all over Pennsylvania.  Wherever you are in Pennsylvania you're always no more than 20 miles from a state park.  We have so many near me I don't even know how many there are.  Even though I'm always near State Parks, I'm still only 1.5 hours from Harrisburg, 3 hours from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and 4 hours from NYC.  It's really the best of both worlds!

Marc, It seems you have found your little piece of heaven. You will enjoy your cabin so much and will find all your cares melt away when you are there. Pennsylvania is a beautiful state and your location sounds just right.

How cool to have such a nice cabin in the woods so close to your home.  Sometimes it's great to get away and just enjoy the wonders of nature and some solitude.

I have been to Pennsylvania several times and it is beautiful and between the countryside, the urban living of the big cities and the Suburbia, PA is a great place to live.

As a resident of PA, I agree with everything you said.  I  moved away for a short period of time, but was happy to return.  WE ARE PENN STATE!
