Glücklich Oktoberfest!

At first I thought I may not be the right person to be writing about the Oktoberfest in Mountain View, CA- I am not much of a beer drinker.  I know a few times that when I have gone out with serious beer aficionados they look at me at the same way that serious wine drinkers look at someone who orders a White Zinfandel glass of wine. You know the "You have got to be kidding me, you are going to drinking that!?" look..

I don't order a major light beer at a brew pub but I do favor very light pale beers that most real beer drinks just scoff at.  However after going out tasting beers with real beer drinkers I do have a favorite beer now that is one of the Steins regular tap offerings that real beer drinkers do not snicker at when I order it.  I can see the value in ordering a more full bodied flavorful beer- when the flavors are something I like.

So with 31 different German beers on tap at Steins, I am not going to give you advice on the best ones to try but I am going to tell you that the special Oktoberfest menu is worth checking out.  I know that there are several people like me that are addicted to Steins hamburgers. I have eaten more hamburgers since Steins has opened up than I had eaten in the past 10 years!  I am a cattle ranchers daughter from Wyoming, so I will concede that why I don't know beers- I do know good beef. I almost stopped eating hamburgers because a good one was so hard to come by.

So even if you don't drink beer, go enjoy the real German food being offered at Steins in honor of Oktoberfest! Everyone will be in a festive mood and you may even find a beer you like, even if you are not a big beer drinker. Steins has several different kinds of potato salad, homemade sauerkraut and my personal favorite, Jagerschnitzel. I am so hoping that they keep that item on the menu!

So breakout your lederhosen and come on down to the Oktoberfest in Mountain View, CA this weekend on the 5th and 6th of October.  And remember, it is OK not to drink beer!

Oh and by the way, once upon I time I also drank White Zinfandel, we all have a learning curve:-)

Oktoberfest is planned from Oct. 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot behind Steins Beer Garden & Restaurant, at Bryant and Dana street, Mountain View. The event is free, but attendees should RSVP online at mvoktoberfest.eventbrite.com/ or via the Evenbrite app.
