Perfect Combination: Chanel - Ella's - Lightfoot - Mermaid

By
Real Estate Agent

I remember it was mid-summer when fellow ActiveRainer, Elizabeth Weintraub, rang me up, and said, “how’d you like to go to a Gordon Lightfoot concert?” She had managed to latch onto a pair of front row seats. However, Elizabeth’s husband, Adam, was going to be out of town. Of course I did what any self-respecting human, who had lived through the 1970s would do. I answered, YES!

The summer continued at its busy pace. Before I knew it, the awaited concert arrived last evening!

The singin’ and strumming’ wasn’t to begin at the Crest Theater in downtown Sacramento until 8:00 pm, providing plenty of time after picking up Elizabeth at 4:00 pm, and a drive to Macy’s for a Chanel event. Chanel had brought in a team of international makeup artists to apply and instruct on the latest greatest Chanel products.

After that, we were off to Ella’s for dinner. Ella’s Restaurant was a proud participant in Sacramento’s recent “Farm to Fork” event. Elizabeth and I ordered the Chilled Lobster, Elizabeth paired her’s with a Roasted Beet Salad, while I decided on Creamy Artichoke Soup. All were really pleasant!

As time approached the 8:00 hour, we strolled the block or two from Ella’s, to the theater, and we watched the miracle of Gordon Lightfoot, who has been writing and singing music for decades, and who is now in his mid-seventies, put on a great show to an appreciative audience! I don’t know what was more amazing, his music, or his ability to remember all those songs.

When the show ended, it was a mere few paces across "K" Street, to The Dive Bar situated across from the theater. Elizabeth wanted to show me the mermaid swimming directly over the bar. While watching the graceful Mermaid’s antics, I finally had answered a longtime question - What would I wish to do, if I weren’t living life as a real estate agent! Yes, folks, if I was a couple decades younger, I’d be applying for that job as a Mermaid!

The evening was enchanting! And it would be easy to say, what happens at the folk rock concert, stays at the folk rock concert. BUT, Elizabeth is a loyal devoted wife, and I’m thegrandmother of seven, for goodness sake!

Elizabeth provides a hilarious story about the more crazy antics of the evening in her blog today.  It can be accessed via: "Gordon Lightfoot and The Dive Bar."

Kerrie - I don't know why, but I had a flash vision of you, while at the Chanel event yesterday afternoon!  The artists, the customers, everyone in that vacinity was so classy and part of the "Beautiful People."  I'm still remembering how you looked on your wedding day!

Myrl, thanks for posting, Looks like you both had a fabulous time. Not sure I could do the mermaid stint, I think I might feel claustrophobic!

Kathy - It's a fairly large water environment she is swimming in.  It runs the entire length of the bar!  And, it wasn't nearly as crowded in the water, as it was in the bar:-)

Hey Myrl: I noticed something in the enlarged photo you posted of the mermaid, does she have a small unicorn protruding from her forehead?

What an evening you had Myrl! Love the post and the humor in it as usual. You and Elizabeth seemed to have a great time in Sacramento.

I learned that we even have mermaids.  :)

This took me back a hundred years to a movie I saw on TV as a child.  It was "Mr. Peabody And The Mermaid."  Deeply affected by the young and beautiful Ann Blyth as the mermaid, I ruminated for a very long time about how wonderful life would be as her character.

Sounds like a just about perfect day for you and Elizabeth.  I'm heading over to read her post.

Hi Myrl, What a wonderful night and for sure, you could have easily been a mermaid. But I was thinking more of Ester Williams type and less of the big fish tail. I could even see you riding a bicycle under water as you wave going by, :-)

William - I was a little envious of her fish tail.  AND, I really checked out what she was actually doing!  It would be great fun, and a little tranquilizing too!  I know one thing for certain, I can hold my breath under water a lot longer than she she seemed able to:-)

Myrl, Sounds like a perfect evening!  It would have been a tough choice between the beet salad and the artichoke soup.  The mermaid was something unique.  I've never heard of that before.  Must have been a huge bar.

Myrl,

Ditto to everything Kerrie said in her comments! Your story and photos made me smile and feel as if I was reliving the moments with you. You really do tell great stories and you keep my interest.

Just for kicks, you should apply for the Mermaid job as a substitute just to see what they say. You never know, they may think it's a great idea.

I also think you should plan another girls night out with Elizabeth. Having fun is a great way to live it up!
