I remember it was mid-summer when fellow ActiveRainer, Elizabeth Weintraub, rang me up, and said, “how’d you like to go to a Gordon Lightfoot concert?” She had managed to latch onto a pair of front row seats. However, Elizabeth’s husband, Adam, was going to be out of town. Of course I did what any self-respecting human, who had lived through the 1970s would do. I answered, YES!
The summer continued at its busy pace. Before I knew it, the awaited concert arrived last evening!
The singin’ and strumming’ wasn’t to begin at the Crest Theater in downtown Sacramento until 8:00 pm, providing plenty of time after picking up Elizabeth at 4:00 pm, and a drive to Macy’s for a Chanel event. Chanel had brought in a team of international makeup artists to apply and instruct on the latest greatest Chanel products.
After that, we were off to Ella’s for dinner. Ella’s Restaurant was a proud participant in Sacramento’s recent “Farm to Fork” event. Elizabeth and I ordered the Chilled Lobster, Elizabeth paired her’s with a Roasted Beet Salad, while I decided on Creamy Artichoke Soup. All were really pleasant!
As time approached the 8:00 hour, we strolled the block or two from Ella’s, to the theater, and we watched the miracle of Gordon Lightfoot, who has been writing and singing music for decades, and who is now in his mid-seventies, put on a great show to an appreciative audience! I don’t know what was more amazing, his music, or his ability to remember all those songs.
When the show ended, it was a mere few paces across "K" Street, to The Dive Bar situated across from the theater. Elizabeth wanted to show me the mermaid swimming directly over the bar. While watching the graceful Mermaid’s antics, I finally had answered a longtime question - What would I wish to do, if I weren’t living life as a real estate agent! Yes, folks, if I was a couple decades younger, I’d be applying for that job as a Mermaid!
The evening was enchanting! And it would be easy to say, what happens at the folk rock concert, stays at the folk rock concert. BUT, Elizabeth is a loyal devoted wife, and I’m the
grandmother of seven, for goodness sake!
Elizabeth provides a hilarious story about the more crazy antics of the evening in her blog today. It can be accessed via: "Gordon Lightfoot and The Dive Bar."
