After touring thousands of booths with many different products at GreenBuild 2010 in Chicago I noted which ones really draw people in and had large audiences. Here is what I saw from the folks doing it right.First off, size does not matter. Some of the busiest booths were not the huge mega-tron size of their big-boy counter parts. They drew people through creating a fun, interactive experience for passer-bys.
- Give away something. The most popular giveaways I saw were beer (yes there were multiple places for free beer at GreenBuild and of course I knew about them) reusable bags, hand sanitizer, pens, food, and things that glow. Yes, that last description is vague on purpose. I am going to use the last so if you want to know what idea I plan to borrow you will have to contact me.

- Host FUN interactive games. I saw a game show complete with podiums and buzzers drawing a huge crowd, lines of people waiting to spin the wheel to win a prize, and I shot a basketball to win a coffee cup and missed, but there were people ready to go after seeing me play. Keep it fun and lively and they will come. Note- energetic representatives help!
People like to touch things. Have your product front and center. I saw many hands including my own stopping to feel the artificial grass, green roof plants, solar tubes, faucets, shower heads, flooring, cabinetry, SIPS, computer display screens, etc. The point is people are more likely to stop and stay if you have tangible items to play with. There are a lot of tactile learners out there so be sure to reach them with your marketing displays.
