Bye-Bye Hilton Hotels. You will never see me or my money again.

I am supposed to be at a real estate conference beginning tomorrow. On the way, my vehicle developed a problem which required me to return home and miss my first night at the Hilton Doubletree in Virginia Beach, VA.

Knowing that I would miss the majority of the Friday sessions (it's a four hour drive to VA Beach), I called the hotel to see if I could move the reservation to another date and just enjoy a four day weekend.

Hilton's response?  NO.  This is the last time I will stay in a Hilton hotel in this country or abroad. If I was flippantly changing my reservation, it would be different, but to penalize me because I had car trouble is unreasonable.

I've spent a lot of money in Hilton Hotels in the past three decades without a single request for a reservation change. Bye-bye Hilton Hotels. You will never see my family again. Poor customer service does not deserve to be rewarded. Ever!

Bye-Bye Hilton Hotels. You will never see me or my money again.

Be sure to put this on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, wherever you "Socialize".  Be sure it goes on Hilton's Pages.

Bad PR may make them change their mind!

Fred, I've already received a tweet from them.   It only took about 20 minutes.

Mike, Taking it up the chain is the way to go.  They don't want the bad press.  Good luck!

Bliz, I've had three attempts to contact me within the first hour after I posted this.  It shouldn't come to this.  Customer service is a lot art in this country.

Mike- the "good" is that they got the message... the "bad" is that you or any customer had to resort to this to get some kind of result... the "ugly" is that they will continue to do this unless someone, like you, speaks up.

Mike I know how you feel and have done the same thing myself when I get the short end from a company that should be happy for my business.

It's sad that the front line employees have no sense of customer service, Kathy.

You would think they appreciate it, Robert, but that is not the case.

Shoot, Kerry, I'd settle for respected.  Oy!

Mike,

I'm glad you took the social media route to bring this out. I love when companies get called out publically for their bad behavior.

Mike - I thought you were planning to come to Daytona. I am a bit confused, did you come? We closed the office in the Fountain, so call me 386-405-4408 when you are here

That stinks!  You'd think they would accomodate you given the fact you're a seasoned client and had car trouble to boot.  Sorry Hilton - you just goofed with the wrong guy!

Rich, it is a nice way to vent and get results.

Hey, Jon.  I won't make it back to Daytona until spring.  I'll look you up when I get down.  I'm monitoring listings along the strip for now.

Jan, I can't even imagine how many stays I've had with them in the past three decades.  It's a lot.

For every Mike who puts this out there on social media/etc, there are many people who just quietly decide to switch to another company.  I'm sure companies lose a LOT of income from messing up their customer service.  It really is the key to being successful or not.

James, customer service is a dying art in this country.

Agreed, Conrad.

Debbie, they've made an effort to make it right.  We'll see where that goes.

Kat, that is so sadly true.  I've done that myself, but every once in a while one really ticks me off enough to make it public knowledge.

Same for me and Macys. You can be a customer for 30 years and they still won't give you a break when something happens out of your control.

Jill, I'm reasonably patient with people, but when the service is just flat bad, I will dump them like a bad meal.
