A Northern Virginia Real Estate Agent's Door Knocking Journal Part 1

Real Estate Sales Representative with Keller Williams

Hi everyone! I’m new to the Active Rain community, and I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Darren Robertson, and I’m an agent with Keller Williams Fairfax Gateway, in Northern Virginia. I love writing, so blogging was a natural choice for me when it came to choosing various marketing strategies. I plan on blogging about a variety of real estate related topics, but I’m particularly excited about a blog series that I’m going to start immediately on door knocking.

Recently, I decided to make door knocking a fairly integral part of my prospecting strategy. I’m a people person and tend to do well in face to face encounters, so this seemed like a natural choice. As a new agent who desires to make a full time living in real estate as quickly as possible, there are only so many options available to me with regard to accelerating the process of building my database to a level that will result in referral and repeat business.

Without minimizing the crucial role of relationships in this business whatsoever, I think most people would agree that real estate, like any other sales profession, is essentially a numbers game, at least when it comes to prospecting - you simply must have enough people to talk to about real estate each and every day if you hope to succeed. People who have been in the business for a long time and who have stayed top of mind with their sphere of influence have the luxury of having a lot of past clients and old contacts who will refer them business. I think this is the goal for most agents across the country, and I also think that this goal represents the biggest obstacle for rookies in the business, and one of the main reasons for the high level of attrition among new agents. How does an agent who is new to a certain area and has a limited database meet and talk to enough people about real estate early on to lay the foundation for a successful business?
