Di Paolo's Italian Ristorante - 28 S Broad St Penns Grove, NJ
It's hard to think about where to start when talking about my favorite restaurant in the world, but if you live within a couple hours of Penns Grove, NJ (Salem County), this place is worth the visit. Yes, it's true - I'd drive A COUPLE hours just for dinner at Di Paolo's.
Keeping tradition with many other Italian restaurants, Di Paolo's offers an extensive menu, so whoever is in your company & whatever mood you're in, you'll find something you love. They also have a very good wine list and a full bar with some very good cocktails.
When you come to Di Paolo's, come hungry! Your dining experience here is started off with different varieties of fresh focaccia bread, all of which are delicious. They also give you extremely generous amounts of antipasti including cheese, roasted red peppers, olives, eggplant, chickpeas, and prosciutto. I have yet to have a dinner here that I haven't LOVED, and I've had lots of dinners here.
While the entire menu is delicious, I come for the (not sure why they're not world famous but they should be) crab cakes - I've had crab cakes throughout crab country in Maryland, and have had crab cakes at extremely high rated restaurants in many seaside towns, but NONE have been as decadently good as Di Paolo's Signature "Orange size" jumbo lump crab cakes - these things are ALL crab. I have no idea how they keep them together but I'm glad they do. Best. Crabcakes. Ever. It's not even up for debate.
Living in Delaware I never had too much reason to venture over into Salem County New Jersey, but I'd find myself at Di Paolo's on a regular basis. Visit their website to see the entire menu and more information about Di Paolo's Italian Ristorante in Penns Grove, NJ.
Bring your appetite, get an appetizer, get 2 crabcakes (you'll want 2 but will only be able to eat 1 - the extra one will taste great the next day!), relax, drink some wine, and have one of the best meals you'll ever eat.
